Article Text: Louisville, Ky., Nov. 7.--Ex-Marshal George W. HUNTER, of Bardstown, while having charge of five prisoners to be taken to the Penitentiary fatally wounded Sam FORD, who was attempting to escape. FORD was one of the MURRELL gang of outlaws. HUNTER some time ago killed Charles MURRELL, and will be remembered as the captor of Grove KENNEDY, the outlaw. Marshal HUNTER states that FORD, whom he shot at Bardstown, had sworn to kill him. FORD is one of the worst men in the State. In 1876 he killed a negro, and last spring murdered Shelby BALLARD in bed, shooting him down in the presence of his daughter. People in the section he belongs are rejoicing at his summary shuffling off. HUNTER, the Marshal, has done much toward breaking up gangs of scoundrel's whose crimes were numerous. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ KY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! Frizzell Morgan Article Text: Athens, Henderson Co., TX Athens Weekly Review March 29, 1917 Obituary Died at her home in Athens, Mrs. C. A. Morgan. The subject of this sketch was born in Marshall County, Kentucky, July 31, 1846, died March 16, 1917. She was the daughter of J. W. and Elizabeth Frizzell and moved to Texas with the family in 1866. On April 2, 1868, she was married to Capt. D. M. Morgan, who with her daughter, Miss Musie Morgan, survive her. She united with the Christian church in 1882 and was from that time on an earnest and faithful Christian. It can be truthfully said of her that she possessed all the qualities that make a noble character. She was especially kind, modest and patient, was dearly beloved by her relatives and neighbors. In her dealings with others she was always careful to treat them exactly right and rather than fail would do more than she considered necessary. A short time before her death she told those nearest her that to be a Christian was the only thing in life worth while. She so lived in this world that when the summons came for her depature from the shores of time she was perfectly reconciled, saying she was ready and willing to go. So passed from mortal life the beautiful, lovable character. Mrs. Celia A. Morgan, one whose many virtues are worthy the emulation of sorrowing loved ones left behind. A FRIEND NOTE: Mrs. Celia A. Morgan born July 31, 1846 died Mar. 16, 1917 buried in Davis Cemetery next to D. M. Used a Shot Gun and Killed One Man Instantly. Article Text: Louisville, December 12.--W. B. CURL, who was whipped by personal enemies near Brandenburg last week, is still hardly able to be about. The men were about to hang him, but upon his plea for the sake of his children contented themselves with beating him until he was bleeding from the heavy welts from his shoulders to his knees. When Constable MASSEY, with a warrant, called on Thomas BURGESS to answer the charge of beating CURL, BURGESS answered, "not by a d--d sight" and taking his shot gun he fired through the door. None of the shots took effect. Then he went to the window and fired the other barrel. The charge entered the bowels of John FOOTE and he fell to the ground dead. During the excitement created by the shooting of FOOTE, BURGESS escaped through a rear window and is at large. BURGESS came here recently from Harrison county, Indiana, where he had killed a man. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ KY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
