Article Text: Married, at the residence of the bride's mother, on Wednesday, June 23, at 6 o'clock a.m., Mr. Andy CRABB to Miss Mattie ROWLAND, both of this county. This marriage proves the old adage to be true, that a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. The same lady was to have been married to Mr. Jo. WILSON on the 1st of July, and every preparation had been made by the expectant groom and his attendants; but last Tuesday evening the fortunate and successful groom proposed, was accepted, and, without any unnecessary preparation, bore off the prize at 6 o'clock the next morning, even before the expectant groom was out of bed. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ KY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! Article Text: A remarkable instance of death-bed repentance has just occurred in Butler county, Ky. A man who was very ill, confident that his last hour was fast approaching, sent for a magistrate, and made a confession that in the year 1870 he had murdered a man named Charles MITCHELL, on Green river. His story was that during the war he and MITCHELL had robbed a man named DAVENPORT in Warren county, and that in the division of the spoils MITCHELL had taken more than his share. In revenge, the self-confessed murderer watched his victim for ten years with the purpose of killing him, and at last, he shot him standing on a barge and his body fell into the river. It was never found, and though suspicions of foul-play were entertained, there was no proof even of his death. The man who fired the fatal shot, having eased his conscience by confession, immediately began to get better, and now promises to regain his health entirely. In the meantime the officers of the law are preparing to ar! rest and prosecute him whenever he has recovered sufficiently to be safely removed from his bed. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ KY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! Article Text: Lexington, Ky., February 4.--Maj. G. Henry BUFORD, of Yarnallton, a wealthy and prominent farmer, died this morning. Maj. BUFORD was a brother of Gen. Abe BUFORD and also of Col. Tom BUFORD, who killed Judge ELLIOTT, of the Court of Appeals. A singular fatality seems to have attached to this family. Many years ago, before the war, Sinkley BUFORD, another brother, was shot and killed in the Court House at Versailles by George CARTER. Gen. Abe BUFORD, depressed by the loss of his fortune, committed suicide in Indiana, and Tom BUFORD, smarting under the conviction that he had been unjustly deprived of his legal rights by the courts, slew in the streets of Frankfort the lamented ELLIOTT. The death of Maj. Henry BUFORD removes the last of the brothers. They had one sister, Miss Mary BUFORD, who, besides possessing all the dignity and accomplishments of womanhood, also possessed the great courage and decision of character for which the family was noted. The family was one of! the earliest to locate in Kentucky, and from father to son have always been among the foremost supporters and patrons of the turf, having bred some of the finest thoroughbreds ever turned out in America. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ KY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
