I Am organizing a clean-up at the Scalf-Howard Cemetery on Turkey Creek in Knox County. This is a very old cemetery and in need of a good cleaning. It has been taken care of until about three or so years ago when the lady taking care of it could no longer do so. It will only take a day to clean (or so I hope) there is a couple of trees down and lying on graves and stones so these will need to be cut. We have at least one person willing to haul away the wood for winter usage but if more people are willing to help, I'm sure there is plenty to go around. The clean up is planned for September 4 2004. Anyone who is interested or can lend a hand please contact me at foe3643@mac.com This is a cemetery that needs to be cleaned up now before it is lost like so many been before. To help perk a little interest here is a list of surnames buried in the cemetery, it is not a complete list by all means but a start: Scalf, Howard, Mills, Messer, Valentine, King, Gambrel, Gibson, Womblems, Broughton, Jones, Honeycutt, Lawson, Miller, Black, Johnson, Williams, Doziers, Fortney and many more buried here. Not to mention that some of the readable stones date back into the 1880's. For those who don't know where the cemetery is located, it is not hard to find very close to US 25 in Barbourville on Turkey Creek. If you can help please let me know ASAP so we can organize drinks and possible lunch. Cassy. foe3643@mac.com Since this is my first posting to the list thought I would also plug my web site Tombstone Central it can be found using any good search engine and typing in "Tombstone Central" or click on the long link below. -- 1. A law in Kentucky also forbids a housewife to move the furniture in the home without her husbands consent. TOMBSTONE CENTRAL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~foe3643/
