I also have this info on Frederick Redwine Note :Appears to have moved from Rowan/Montgomery Co., N.C. , where he was counted in the 1790 and 1800 Census in Salisbury District to Lexington, Kentucky area around 1814, when he and his family (including son Wiley and wife) were apparently counted in the census (also in 1820). Any help would be appreciated. I am trying to locate the grave of Frederick, his wife (name unknown) and descendants.
It is either in Boyd or Greenup county. I am not sure which. Thomas & Carolyn, I went to check on the cemetery. The directions given were very helpful, but unfortunately the cemetery is no longer there. I found the creek and when was unable to find the cemetery I started asking neighbors about it. Apparently the cemetery was moved quite a few years ago. According to the people I talked to they came out an dug up all the graves and boxed them up for re-burying in a different cemetery. They could not tell me which cemetery that they moved it to, but I suspect it was the South Jefferson Cemetery. The land that the cemetery was on once belonged to the McCrawley's. At South Jefferson they have the removals from the "McCrawley" Cemetery. There are over a hundred graves but most all of them are marked as unknown. The person whom I talked to said that the cemetery was vandalized quite a bit before they moved it. ~Alan

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/wS.2ADIAE/333.1 Message Board Post: I lived in Okolona in the early 1960's. Go to yahoo maps and enter 9507 Polaris Dr. in Okolona. If "Grissom Way" and "Turnpike View Dr." intersected, the intersection would be somewhere near the old Civil War cemetary. There was a store on Blue Lick road at that time and the store owners had the farmland behind the store which is probably where Freedom Way and Grissom Way are. Polaris Drive existed when we moved there in 1961(?) The houses on Freedom Way were built in 1963/64 or so, but the "grissom" probably pertains to Virgil Grissom who died in a spacecraft accident in the late 60's so I don't know if they renamed the streets or if the building project was stalled or if it was just a coincidence or what. Toward the back of that land, near the aforementioned cemetery, was a creek with crawdads and water mocassins and big old vines you could swing on like Tarzan (sort of.) I ran into a guy from Okolona about 10 or 15 years or so ago and he said my friends James, Ve! ronica and Frances Powell still lived in the area. James will remember where the creek and cemetery were (are, I hope.) Near where it says "Lana Ct" on the map was an old estate we used to sneak into with an extensive carriage house full of old cars (and a back lot full of wrecked Corvettes etc. with "Chip" painted on them.) Maybe these people owned the land and not the store owners. The cemetery had whole families buried in it , and quite a few of the graves were childrens', which gave us a wierd feeling, since we were not used to children dying. Sorry if I'm rambling; I was just wondering if there was anything on the web about that old cemetery 40 years and many miles ago when I saw your posting. I don't know if any of the Interstate highways on the map existed at that time or if the creek/graveyard area was disturbed. It was there in 1962 when Pres. Kennedy was shot and I was in second grade. Good luck looking for your ancestor... Thomas C. Rafferty, Jr., Dana Point, CA

The menbership roll for the Big Sinking Baptist Church includes an Elizabeth Bates. I had an aunt in Wayne County named Crissy Elizabeth Staton who married a Bates and died in the early 1890's at about 20 years of age. I do not know her husabnd's given name. I would like to hear from anyone who knows about this Elizabeth Bates. If she was not a STATON, I will continue my search. Bill
