I had contacted the Western State Hospital about getting the maiden name of a relative who died there in 1940. I gave them all my info and said I just wanted the maiden name. I was told I needed a court order. The relative was 87 years old and was only there(according to the death certificate) when her spouse died 10 months earlier and she was diagnosed with senility. You can go to Christian County, Ky. on the search engine and get Western Ky. State Hospital and they do have some info on early employees and residents. Pam

Actually, I think I am getting somewhere. I did as they asked and got a court order from a judge in Christian County to release my great-grandfather's records from Frankfort. I sent that and some documents proving my relationship to Att(Atwood) Willoughby to Western State and a few weeks later got a letter in the mail. To my pleasant surprise, it was apologizing for the delay and assuring me that once the records arrive, they will send them to me. I was not told that it was used to plant crops but that there had been wooden markers and a fire destroyed the markers. I was also told that if I pre-arranged my visit (it is a state hospital after all) that they would allow me to come and visit the cemetery. I will keep you advised when I hear more. I'm about five hours away and am anxious to make the trip.
