    2. You listed several families you are researching. I am related to the "Iveys". My grandfather was William Washington Ivey born in Kentucky Nov. 28, 1867 and married Mary Elizabeth Rudd born Sept. 25, 1890. Who are you related to? Thanks, Marcell

    1. RE: [KY-CEM] Illegal Moving of Graves?
    2. Michael Smith
    3. Thanks to everyone with their replies--what seemed to have happened in my case is that the graves were just moved to the front of the graveyard. Mind you that this is in the Oldham Co. area where much development is happening so I would figure this is the reason why this happened, and apparently it is an abandoned and closed cemetery on private land, so whatever happened, I am sure that whoever moved them went through the proper procedures. Again, thanks for everyone's help! Michael I would imagine who moved the graves would have a lot to do with it. If direct descendants moved them would be one matter, if I came and moved them or a developer moved them it would be another matter. May I add, the law does not stop anyone from doing anything, it only gives the right to sue or have the person arrested. It is a good question, does one have to get permission from Kentucky to move a grave - no matter who does it? 1. [KY-CEM] Illegal Moving of Graves?
    2. Michael Smith
    3. Hi everyone, I do not know much about the laws here in Kentucky concerning cemeteries, so here is a question I have. Recently a family member of mine visited a cemetery in Oldham Co. and found that someone had moved two of our relatives' tombstones and presumably the whole graves as well. I would think that this would be illegal. She said that it looked like they had dug everything up due to development. Would this be illegal for whomever did it, whether it be the owner or whomever? Mind you that this is an older, closed cemetery in which I have ancestors there whom d. even before the 1950s. But wouldn't this still be illegal? Thanks for any help and God bless! Best of luck in all future genealogical ventures, Michael Smith [email protected]

    1. [KY-CEM] Task force Needs help locating cemeteries
    2. John Vice
    3. Hello All, This is being sent to you in case you haven't already heard about it before. I have just uncovered information that asks Kentuckians (or, I guess even people from out of the state of Kentucky) to let Kentucky's Task Force on Cemetery Preservation (Office of the Kentucky Attorney General) know about the location of Cemeteries which can allow the state of Kentucky provide proper aid, etc. The 38 member Task Force on Cemetery Preservation was formed by order of Gov. Patton sometime earlier this year. This sounds like a way to apply for aid to many of the historic & abandoned cemeteries throughout Kentucky. I know I have heard many persons on many of these mailing lists express concerns about the condition & care of old abandoned cemeteries here in Kentucky. There is a more detailed explanation at the following website (all or most questions you have can be answered when you visit this website): www.kyattorneygeneral.com/cemetery Time is short. From the above website, you can download a form to be filled out (or the form is also said to be available at the county judge's offices throughout Kentucky). IMPORTANT--This form must be filled out & submitted no later than August 15, 2001. So, if you have a cemetery (or cemeteries) within Kentucky that you are interested in having the State of Kentucky providing aid to, this form can filled out by any interested person & mailed as instructed (especially historic cemeteries that are overgrown, abandoned, and neglected). Hope this interests all of you. John Vice

    3. Kathleen, I had not written to you but, I, too, had a virus on Friday. McAfee cleaned it up for me @ $2.95 a minute for 39 minutes. <ugh!.It was: "W95/[email protected] virus in the attached file: MATRiX_Screen_Saver.SCR" It was found in a message I sent to a friend in FL and I sent no such attachment. I'm sorry if I infected anyone. Wasn't sure if I should warn you or the list.
