If you feel that this connects to your line, I would like to see your Kunkel family records, if you don't mind. This is what I have: Heinrich (Henry) KUNKEL, son of Jacob Martin KUNKEL, born 22 April 1797, and Christina GERGEN, born 10 February 1823, both in Darmstadt, Germany. They had one child, (Heinrich) then she died, and Jacob M. remarried to Anna Catharine WEIMER, and had two more children. I have LOTS of data on the second two children. For the only child of the first marriage - "Heinrich KUNKEL" was born 08 March 1825 in Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany, and died 14 May 1908 in Mexico, Audrain County, Missouri (USA). He is buried in Elmwood Cemetery there. He married: Elisabeth KRAUTEL on 21 April 1851 in St. Louis, St. Louis City, MO. She is the daughter of Johann KRAUTEL. She was born 23 March 1832 in Baden, Germany. She died 09 May 1893 in Mexico, Audrain Co, MO. The about two had 8 children: 1) - Henrietta Chrstina KUNKEL, b. 03 July 1856 in MO.- She married: Fred G. ROHLFING in 1888. 2) - John C. M. KUNKEL, b. 02 January 1859 in Prairie Twp, Audrain Co, MO. Buried in Elmwood Cemetery. (THIS MIGHT BE WHO YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!) 5) - Edward F. KUNKLE - b. about 1865. Died: 17 August 1922. Married Mrs. R. (Brinker) FORD. 6) - Matilda KUNKEL, b. 1870 in Prairie Twp, Audrain Co, MO. She married: L. C. OWINGS on 17 October 1894 in MO. 7) - Clara F. KUNKEL, b. 29 May 1872 in Prairie Twp, Audrain Co, MO. 3. Hi Everyone: The old genealogy scam is back. www.genseekers.com Behind the password protection are links to the free genealogy on-line. There is no content of their own. In order to get the "5-day free trial" you have to surrender a credit card or bank account number. You have to cancel within 5 days or you get dinged. Guess what? The cancellation e-mail bounces. Does this surprise you? One person who recently fell for the come-on had his/her account dinged not once, but twice. It is time to remind folks on your state and county mailing lists about these scoundrels. It has been a couple of years since we have mentioned this. Permission is granted to pass this on. 1. [KUNKLE] Maryland State Archives Reduces Services
    2. Shirley & Barney Fergus
    3. The following article is from Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter and is copyright 2003 by Richard W. Eastman. It is re-published here with the permission of the author. Information about the newsletter is available at http://www.RootsForum.com. [This is for your information. It sounds like the plan is for an online service [provided that there are no budget cutbacks] but there will be NO service for awhile.] This week seems to be crowded with news about cutbacks in state archives staff and resources. However, the State of Maryland appears to actively be converting expensive, labor-intensive tasks to automated, self-serve formats. Specifically, the Maryland State Archives has announced that it is suspending its research for a fee related to birth and death records. The reference staff will continue to accept vital record orders only for legal purposes or for official business (estate settlement, social security, passports, citizenship). In place of filling these requests manually, the Maryland State Archives is developing Web access. Quoting from the Maryland State Archives Web site: Diminishing staff resources over the past few years and budget shortfalls compel us to look for ways to provide more efficient service. The suspension of vital records research will allow our reduced staff to focus on providing vital record indexes in a searchable, web-based environment while better preserving these permanent records. If you would like to support our efforts to make birth and death record indexes more broadly available via the internet, please consider donating to the Endowment Fund of the State Archives Fund. Your tax-deductible donation by check to that fund will be used to develop this invaluable resource. Please address any questions or concerns to vitalrec@mdarchives.state.md.us . We thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. Sincerely, Edward C. Papenfuse, Ph.D. State Archivist and Commissioner of Land Patents The same Web site then states that over the next year, the Maryland State Archives intends to provide online access to death record index information to improve accessibility and to preserve the original records. Digital access will include: County Death Record Indexes, 1898-1944 - to be available in October, 2003 Baltimore City Death Record Indexes, 1875-1942 - to be available in December, 2003 Baltimore City Death Record Indexes, 1942-1972 - to be available in March, 2004 County Death Record Indexes, 1944-1951 - to be available in June, 2004 County Death Record Indexes, 1951-1968 - to be available in September, 2004 For county death records after 1968, and for Baltimore City death records after 1972 - to be available in by 2005 Birth record indexes - to be available after 2005 As the indexes become available, the Reference staff will reply to copy orders that provide exact citations from the online indexes.

    2. Hi Jeanette, Thanks for getting back to me. Today email is coming from ever where all at one time. Am not sure how I became connected with Indiana Co. Kunkles. However, I am seeking the parents of my gr-grandfather Michael Conkle. MY search starts with the Meigs Co., OH 1850 Fed Census. Michael and wife, Mary Ann McCaskey are shown with their family. The youngest, John Henry, was shown as 9/12 , and born in PA John Henry (Barney) Conkle is grandfather. Research by James E. Kunkle, as shown in his Kunkel CD, claims that Johannes Lawrence Kunkle is the father of My Michael. I am searching for proof of this fact. Can you shed any light on my search for proof? Les

    2. Hi Janet, I can get confused about Jim Kunkle address. Last week I sent him a letter using PO Box 140460, Edgewater, CO 80214 and received a reply with a return address with Box 569 Denver, CO 80201-0569. And now you send me another address. What is going? Is he using up old envelopes? Or, am I just confused? Nice to hear from you. On 23 Aug 02, on our way to Pearl's annual family reunion, my pacemaker/defibulator decided I needed a 'JOLT'. I got the 'JOLT' while driving over the Mt Rainier Hyway. All went OK, I just grabbed the steering wheel and kept on driving. The JEK Kunkel CD is very interesting. Now Jim tell me that a printed copy is not available--do to his method printing and binding---because of over all cost. It seems to me that ONLY 4 or 5 printed copies is inappropriate, considering all the effort that Jim has put into his Kunkel Project. There must be many Libraries that would like to have a copy. Is there any thing that cane be done to make copies available? Maybe I am not keeping up with the times----maybe CD's are the way to go. How are things with SPINDLE ? Les

    3. Hi Les and all, I didn't know Jim had a PO box address or I wouldn't have posted his other one. If he does, he never told me. Of course I owe him a letter. If you have a copy of the CD, you know it's really voluminous in size for the printed pages. I'm using a couple families from them in the coming 2 Spindle copies, but only say, 4 or 5 generations, as you know the space is limited in them. Each of those issues will be 36 pages. The 2002 issues you should have now are January and April, with July and October coming within the next week or two. Also, coming in the next week is a bulk mail letter to folks who are members or who have been members in the past and any others who've expressed interest in subscribing to this old fashioned print newsletter. I have yet to index 2002 and expect little time in the coming months, but maybe will get that out by the end of the year. You will see from the contents below that I am dependent on what others send me or allow me to print. Some contents of the July issue are: Family Abstracts from Penna. wills; Ohio Marriages; Ohio Land records; Possible Kunkel Sisters; Jacob Kunkel 1700's Seligenstadt GER; Some Descendants of Michael Kunkel 1816-1886; Garth Brackbill's John Kunkle Sr. of Perry Co PA 1800s; Eastern Penna obits with thanks to www.pa-roots.com and Bob Kunkel; 5 Generations of Joh. Martin Kunkel (from Jim's CD). October's: Konkles of USA & Canada, a Konkle Family Tree, Adam Concle's Petition for Land in Canada, John Adam Kunkel/Konkle Descendants (all from John Devonshire); Warren Glenn Kunkle's Street Car restored in Calif (this was Jim K's father); NY's Where Were They in 1870 using Census info & some creative spellings of our names; George & Lovina Kunkle Bible (Irene K. Hannum's); A Real Spindle Story from Eleanor Cunkle Grant; Descendants of Andreas Peter Kunkel b 1759 (Jim's CD and again, only a few generations down due to space limits but should also have info relating to the Konkles). Janet Reinhold, editor PO Box 4001 Covina CA 91723 spindle@futurepkg.com $14 gets you 4 issues on calendar year basis plus an index.

Les ==== KUNKLE Mailing List ==== Virus warnings RootsWeb's mailing lists are filtered and attachments are not allowed. A virus that is distributed as an attachment will not reach you through a RootsWeb mailing list. A recent virus, and several imitations of it, may result in your receiving an e-mail (or a greeting card) with a virus attached, that appears to come from RootsWeb or from an address you are familiar with. Some virus will send a message to all the unread messages in the infected person's mailbox folders; another will use addresses found in the infected person's address book. They send messages using a forged address (for instance, using RootsWeb or the infected person in the return address). The subject line may be from a message that was recently received, making it even more credible. While it may appear to come from RootsWeb, that is only an illusion of the virus -- our address and the subject line is a forgery. What can you do? Protect yourself by never opening an attachment from someone you do not know, or that look suspicious. If an unexpected attachment comes from someone you do know, write to confirm that the attachment was sent by them prior to opening it. If you have an e-mail from RootsWeb, and there is an attachment of any kind, don't open it. Use a virus protection program. 3. hi! I spent hours yesterday at the Indiana Historical Society researching my ancestors. My grandfather is Bruce William Kunkle, son of Philip Wesley Kunkle and Edith Neil Kunkle. He wasn't listed there with the rest of his family and his father's name was listed as Wesley, not Philip. However, I have a copy of Bruce's marriage application which includes his father's signature as Philip W. Kunkle and states that they were both born in Indiana Co., Pa. Bruce was born 7-1-00, Philip in 1873 and his father, George W. in 1844. I don't know who George was married to. Philip was married twice, second wife was mother to all the children. She died in 1916 in childbirth, as did all the children. I recognized many names as relatives but our branch seems to be missing. Any help will be deeply appreciated. Sandie

    2. Barney & Shirley Fergus
    3. Hello Listers, I find it useful to occasionally explain the message board posts that appear on this mailing list, especially for those that have joined recently and are not familiar with their operation. Posts that get distributed on this mailing list come from two sources. 1. Subscribers to the list (that means you) have sent their query/reply to the list's posting address -L@rootsweb.com Only subscribers can post and reply this way. 2. Posts made on the Ancestry/Rootsweb message board website at http://boards.ancestry.com are also copied to the list. As anyone can post to the message boards, to respond to a post coming from a message board, it is necessary to reply to the post via the message board website and NOT via the mailing list (because there is nothing that forces board posters to be subscribers to the mailing lists). All posts coming from the message board can easily be identified as the first line will be: "This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list." To respond to the message click on the URL/web address link which is about the 4th line in the post. e.g. http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/1VB.2ACIB/xyz the exact address is different for each post. So if the first line of a post says "This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list." go to the website to respond. If the first line does not say the above, use the list address -L@rootsweb.com to reply. Hope this reminder is helpful for the newer members. Cheers Shirley Fergus List Owner
