Robert, For 25 years I have been trying to correct all of the errors that seem to keep cropping up in the Kunkle ancestry of York County, PA., and was wondering why everyone kept claiming that Christina was a Spangler. My only conclusion was that someone believed that the sponsors for the baptisms of some of the children of Gottlieb Kunkle by his first wife Christina Barbara (namely Baltzer & Mary Magdalena Spangler) were actually the parents of Christina. Since I am also a descendent of the Spanglers of York County, I have focused a lot of my attention on researching the Spangler lines. My research confirms the fact that Balthasar is not the parent of Christina. Balthasar Spengler married Magdalen Ritter 29 April 1732 at Weiler, Germany. The Will of Baltzer Spengler appears in Will Book C, page 9, probated 3 Dec 1770, York County, PA. No mention is made of Christina's Kunkle children. I would also like to mention that I did not come accross a Christina (supposedly Spangler) wife of Gottlieb Kunkle in the records of Weiler, Germany. So once again, thanks for clearing up the problem with the other researchers on this list. I am assuming that you are the same Robert Brenner who subscribes to my quarterly (From York To Gettysburg.) It is good to be able to talk to you via e-mail, and I did receive your subscription for 1999. My line of Kunkle descent is as follows: Gottlieb Kunkel married 1st Christina Barbara. Gottlieb Kunkel Jr. married Agnes. Baltzer Kunkel married Elizabeth. Peter M. Kunkel married Sarah Sanders. Elijah Kunkel married Mary Ann Benedick. Jacob Benedict Kunkel married Mary Ellen Spangler. Lottie Belle Kunkel married Martin Luther Laird John William Laird married Phyllis Miller. Patricia Laird married Bill Howard. An article on the two Baltzer Kunkle's both born about 1774, both married to an Elizabeth appears in "From York To Gettysburg," Volume 1, Number 3, 15 Aug 1996. I wrote the article to clear up the error claiming that my ancestor Peter Kunkel was the son of Baltzer Kunkel and Elizabeth Trimmer, when in actuality he is the son of the other Baltzer Kunkel, son of Gottlieb. The article was sent to the "Spindle," but I have not heard anything on the status, or whether or not it will be published. The article included the following information: The Kunkle/Gunckle Family of Dover Township, York County, Pa. The Bible Record of Samuel Gunkel and wife Ruth Anna Garretson. The Bible Record of Samuel Gunkel and wife Elizabeth Spangler. The Bible Record of Baltzer Gunkle/Kunkle and Elizabeth Trimmer. The Last Will of Baltzer Kunkle, of Cumberland County, PA. Orphans Court Dockets, York County, PA., Volume F, Page 355, Minor Orphan Children of John Gunkle of Dover Township. Will of John Kunkel, Dover Township, York County, PA. The correct children of Baltzer Kunkel and Elizabeth Trimmer would be: Samuel Gunkel married Elizabeth Spangler. Catherine Kunkel. Sarah Kunkel. Elizabeth Kunkel married James McClure. John Kunkel. Nancy Kunkel married Samuel Hoover. I would also like to know the source for Gottlieb Kunkel husband of Christina Barbara being a Junior? Since I have not ordered the book, and do not subscribe to the "Spindle," I cannot make any comments on any claims presented in the book without first knowing the source. Robert please let me know your line of descent and I will get back with you. Sincerely, Patricia Laird Howard "From York To Gettysburg" Robert B wrote: > Kunkle/Kunkel Researchers, > > I would like to clear up an error that unfortunately has been published on > page 38 of the above book.
