First of all, make sure the "To:" says "[email protected]". Then, you write something like, "My furthest known ancestor is_____________ __________ who was born in (insert year) at (insert place). He was married to ______ ________ and they lived in (insert place). Their children were: (list children's names & when & where born, if known). Then state what you want to know, or you can say something general like "any help appreciated".
