Confederate Pension Applications.......... Sam Kunkel of OH, AR, TX Sam Kunkel was rejected for a pension on 30 Dec 1922 because he had "too much property." The following is from the applicant's statements, and not the form's boilerplate. He applied because of an Act of April 7, 1913, and had to be a resident of the State sinice prior to January 1, 1900, and continuously a citizen of Texas. He had to state that he didn't have any source of income amounting to $300 per year, and that neither he nor his wife owned property in excess of $1,000. Gray Co. Naylor, "do solemnly swear that I am adjutant of the Sam Lanham Camp UCV 1383 of Clarendon, Donley Co TX, and that Sam Kunkle was and is for the past three or four years a member of said camp and kept his dues fully paid."
