Pages 38-39: 6-Mary Ellen BAKER b March 28, 1878; d Aug 22, 1944; m Mar 28, 1895: Adam CONKLE b Dec 17, 1870 d May 26, 1947 Mary was born in German township, Holmes Co (OH), on the farm...where she grew to womanhood. After her marriage they lived on several local farms -- for a few years on the Benjamin BECK farm -- and from the spring of 1902, with the exception of a year they lived on the farm of grandfather "Billy" FARVER, and when the estate was settled in 1914, they bought this farm where they lived the rest of their life. Besides spending his life as a farmer, Adam Conkle loved to hunt. He could bag the limit of rabbits and squirrels before the rest of us could get started. He also did much night-hunting, coon-hunting being a sport he loved. And the hundreds and hundreds of miles he walked while hunting foxes need be mentioned. The first red fox the writer ever saw, was one Adam shot, stopping by to show it to us when I was about six or seven years old. Their address was Baltic, Rt. #1. They are both buried in the Oak Hill U. B. Church cemetery, where they were members during later years. When almost 18, she was married to DeSylva Oswald, who for some time operated a meat market in Charm, Ohio. Several years after their marriage, he became afflicted with multiple sclerosis, which gradually grew worse until he was confined to a wheelchair during all his daytime hours, spending more than ten years in the chair, being helped in and out by the family. He attended the funeral of his wife in the wheel chair. The writer visited him many times and he looked forward to these visits very much, always being jolly, cheerful, and looking for the best in things. Never did we hear him complain or speak of the darker side. He collected tax stamps, and with the help of his family, spent many days sorting them and getting them ready to send in to redeem them for cash to help defray expenses. After Emma's death, he managed to keep his family together and maintain the home with the help of his children. During the 1930's, they lived near New Bedford, and in 1943, they moved to Berlin, Holmes Co., Ohio, where he lived until his death. They were members of the Oak Hill U. B. Church, where they are both buried. Children: 8-Esta Corrine OSWALD 8-Lewis Eugene OSWALD 8-Eunice OSWALD 8-Ruth OSWALD 8-Blaine OSWALD 8-Esta Corrine Oswald, ...m.
