This is my first time posting to the Kunkle news list. I hope that this message will clear up a misunderstanding about the genealogy and children of Baltzer Kunkle and Elizabeth Trimmer earlier posted in re: B. Kunkle, Blacksmith, part 2. of this letter. There were two Baltzer Kunkles married to Elizabeth's residing in York Co., Pa. Both Baltzer Kunkles were born abt 1774, one being my ancestor Baltzer Kunkle son of Gottlieb Kunkle and wife Agnes. This Baltzer Kunkle was baptised at Christ Lutheran Church, York, York Co. PA. His birth was recorded as 9 April 1774, baptismal 22 May 1774. The other Baltzer Kunkle was born around 1774, probably in York County, PA., and died 17 Sept 1849, not 1841, age 75 years, in Cumberland Co., PA. He was the son of John Kunkle not Jacob Kunkle, who died in 1790 in York Co., PA., and wife Catherine. Baltzer Kunkle married Elizabeth Trimmer, born around 1776, York Co., PA., died 1 January 1850, age 73 years in Cumberland County, PA. The will of Elizabeth's father, Andrew Trimmer appears in Will Book D, page 195, written 6 March 1826, Probated 1 Nov 1832, Adams County, PA. The will of Andrew Trimmer mentions his wife Susanna, land (house & Lot) in the Town of Berlin, Adams Co., PA., and the following children: Samuel, Elizabeth wife of Baltzer Kunkle, Catharine wife of Jacob Atland, Sally wife of John Ferree and Anna wife of Joseph Ferree. The Trimmer family were originally from Amwell Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The children of Baltzer Kunkle and Elizabeth Trimmer were: 1) Samuel Gunkle, born 7 Feb 1799, died 21 Dec 1874, York Co, PA., married Elizabeth Spangler, born Aug 1798 York Co., PA., died 9 May 1874, York Co., PA. 2) Catherine Kunkle, born 31 July 1801, York Co., PA., married Spangler. 3) Sarah Kunkle, born 30 Aug 1803, York Co., PA. 4) Elizabeth Kunkle, born 1 Dec 1805, York County, PA., married James McClure. 5) John Kunkle, born 2 Nov 1808, York Co., PA. 6) Nancy Kunkle, born 2 Dec 1815, York Co., PA. married Samuel Hoover. The source for the children and their birth dates comes from the Kunkle Bible records, deeds for Cumberland and York Co., PA., and the will of Baltzer Kunkle. For a more complete article on this family see my quarterly, "From York To Gettysburg," Volume 1, Number 3, 15 Aug 1996, which includes a copy of the bible records, and other documentation for this family. Peter Kunkle born 1799 (my ancestor) was not the son of Baltzer Kunkle who died in 1849 in Cumberland Co., PA. Peter Kunkle was the son of Baltzer Kunkle and wife Elizabeth (probably Meyers.) This Baltzer Kunkle was still living by the year 1850 and appears in the household of Peter Kunkle during the 1850 census of Warrington Township, York Co., PA. Peter Kunkle was the owner of Kunkle's Mill in York Co. I have been working for over 24 years to clear up all of the inaccurate information regarding the families of both Baltzer Kunkle's. I hope that this information well help someone who is currently working on the Baltzer Kunkle line.
