    3. Part 2 of 2: B. Kunkle, Blacksmith... Balker Kunkle Junior is listed in the 1820 census record of Pennsylvania in Antrim Township, Franklin County. I found no other information on this person. Balthasar Kunckel was born in 1759 in Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. His marriage to Catherine Kobel on April 29, 1783 was recorded by the Christ Lutheran Church, Stouchsburg, Marion Township, Berks County. Baltzer Kunkle was born on March 21, 1774 in Allen Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and died on September 11, 1841. His father was Jacob and his mother was Catherine. He married Elizabeth Trimmer who was born on January 9, 1776 in Hunterdon, New Jersey. They had 4 children: John (1798), Samuel (1799), Peter (1799), and Sarah (1800). A man named Balsir Kungle appears in the 1790 census records of Pennsylvania. He is listed under Hellam Township, York County, Pennsylvania with four free white males under sixteen years and six free white females in his household. Baltzer Kunkle is listed in the 1810 Pennsylvania Census in Manchester, York County. A man named Boltzer Kunkle is listed that same year in Hellam Township, York County. Finally, two men named Baltzer Kunkle are listed in the 1820 Pennsylvania census, one in East Manchester Township, York County, the other in Dover Township, York County. Barnabas ("Barney") Kunkel was born on February 10, 1818 in York, Pennsylvania and died on May 26, 1889. He is buried in Oregon Cemetery, Holt, Missouri. His father was Henry, his mother was Elizabeth Anna Miller. He married Catherine Secrist. Bastian Kunkle of Westmoreland County, is listed in the 1800 Census Index of Pennsylvania. In the 1810 census, a man named Sebastian Kunkle is listed in North Huntingdon, Westmoreland County. If this is the same man, it is unlikely that the candle stand was made by him unless he called himself by the name Bastian. Benjamin Kunkel was born around 1805 in Pennsylvania. His father was Peter and his mother was Maria Magdalena Rausch. I found no other information on this person. Another Benjamin Kunkle was born on March 12, 1806 in Perry County, PA and died on March 1, 1900 in Bayard, Iowa. His name was given in some records as Benjamin Franklin Kunkle. His father was Jacob and his mother was Elisabeth Snyder. He married Barbara Edmonds on October 30, 1831 in Union, Pennsylvania. Another Benjamin Kunkel was born on August 12, 1801 in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania and died on September 22, 1888 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His father was Christian and his mother was Anna Maria Elizabeth Welsaur. (His mother's surname has also been spelled "Welshofer.") He married Magdalena Gross on September 17, 1827. According to records in the Joseph Downs Collection of Manuscripts and Printed Ephemera, Benjamin Kunkle is mentioned in the dyeing book of Solomon Strous and account book of Jacob Strous, Lebanon, Middleton, and Dauphin Counties, Pennsylvania 1802-1836. This may refer to the abovementioned Benjamin Kunkle born in Harrisburg. Much of these manuscripts is written in German, but the books may prove to yield useful information under further study. Also pertinent to the Benjamin Kunkle of Harrisburg is an ledger in the Downs Collection kept by George Kunkel, the oldest son of Anna Hoyer and Christian Kunkel. George may have been the brother of Benjamin. He was a merchant and recorded his financial transactions in this ledger from 1810 to 1816. At this point in my research it is impossible to tell if any of these people might have made the candlestand. A trip to the historical societies of various counties in Pennsylvania would undoubtedly yield more information including the occupations of some of these men. I will continue to check the Kunkle website for any information that might turn up in response to my query and will add any information I collect to the file to help narrow the search for B. Kunkle. I guess the footnotes don't cut and paste -- let me know if you need them. Melinda
