I went to Oregon on a genealogy trip and when I came back everyone was gone. Don't tell the the Konkle's hibernate with the oncoming winter. I am trying to locate the Konkle who donated land for the Macedonia Baptist Cemetery in Madison, Jefferson County, Indiana. This person was a female, maiden name Konkle, but was not a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. Her property was next to the cemetery and she donated more land for graves according to the chuch. Does anyone have any idea who this was? I am not sure the year, but guessing between 1940-1980. I am also still looking for anyone who has information about John R. Konkle, possibly born in Switzerland Co. Indiana in 1841-43. I have two different dates on him. His father was possibly John Konkle from PA and may have had a brother Daniel also of Switzerland Co., IN. Daniel and John R's mother may possible have been Mary USHER from SC. Some of these Konkle's were tobacco farmers in Switzerland, Ripley and Jefferson County. Ring any bells with anyone? Infact, some are still farming tobacco. I am looking for information on the family of John George Kunkel who lived in either Monroe or Northampton Co. Pa in the middle 1700'. He had a daughter Maria Barbara Kunkel (b. This mailing list is not only for KUNKELs and KUNKLEs, but it is also for the benefit of GUNKEL, CONKLE, and other variants. I chose Kunkel for the name of the list because I had to choose one; the most famous family member I know of is Johannes Kunckel, glassmaker and inventor of ruby glass; and along with KUNKLE, it is somewhat more commonly known than the other variants. As most of you know, I am a CONKLE descendant myself. I "believe" (not quite proven beyond all doubt) that our name was GUNKEL originally. I am not positive that the Gunkels and Kunkels are related to one another, but I cannot in all good conscience rule this out....Heaven knows which came first, perhaps Kunkel of the Spessart? So the purpose of this message is to encourage those of you who can contribute other variants to please do so. Some of you subscribe to the Spindle newsletter, but many of you don't. Hi Dick & all, You are right about what you say, but the main reason I wanted to do this is because no one except me, and one or two others, was contributing to the list. I am currently in a position such that I cannot carry the list alone--I simply don't have the time, especially since being sick I must now catch up on a myriad of things (which include the Oct issue of the Spindle, AND the Ancestor Chart book & index for BOTH). In this regard your #2 is something I disagree with. That's why I suggested the "reply to list" feature. Indeed it can be a dangerous thing. I hope more people will comment on this! If we were to envision ourselves, not at computers at various ends of the earth, but as family members around a big table.......We could share what we have with one another, disagree amiably if necessary, saying "here's why I think this way..." It's very easy to copy the KUNKEL-L address from the heading, and insert it. MUCH easier than trying to "correct" a message sent out on the internet when it was intended for just one person, perhaps soliciting an opinion. If a letter is eroneously sent to an individual, rather than the group, this can easily be corrected. 2. If it's not broken, don't fix it! We haven't had any problems, so why stir things up? 3.
