    3. As listowner, I'd like to ask for those of you who subscribe to this KUNKEL-Kunkle-Conkle-Gunkel List: please send me your mailing or "snail mail" address (if you haven't sent it to me already & are not a Spindle subscriber). Please DON'T POST IT, but rather, send it in a personal reply to this message. I will keep it in a file and will refer to it when someone asks for a referral and I know/feel them to be a bona fide researcher on the line. If you could also place a query or surnames or something like Rootsweb has ("KUNKEL, 1600-1850, GER-PA" for example), it may be very helpful. Whatever info you care to send (or not) is OK. Those of you who know the researchers in our family know already that many of our more active folks aren't "on-line." This is the case for historian James E Kunkle (whose address is PO Box 140460, Edgewater CO 80214) and also for David Shannon (res. John Conkle of Washington Co PA) and Norma Olson (res. Henry Conkle of Washington Co PA, Ohio Co VA/WV). I try to send copies of the Email postings to James, albeit LATE, and he gets very frustrated when he can't just mail info to someone. Another reason for asking for snail mails is that you may go off-line sometime & then cousins wouldn't be able to contact you. I know one member who has changed emails every year, and he is easy to lose track of! If I didn't have his snail mail address, I wouldn't be able to contact him during those "in between" times. With increases in internet fees and the like, I expect even more changes as time goes on. Even for international folks---! Not to say that folks on line can't help each other! In our newsletter, I have an email list and I'd like you to tell me if it's okay that I place your name and research data in it. On one of the surname lists I have seen (the Hall List), the listowner has made up a really neat list using subscribers' email. It is sorted alpabetically by first names of the (furthest known) ancestors. If anyone is interested in this, please email me your data for this list. It is posted every so often (once a month?) and seems very promising. Updated additions are shown by an asterisk by the entry (*). Here is a sample: Adam C m 1855, res Licking Co OH - [email protected] Adam C d 1912 Columbus OH - [email protected] Anna Marie "Mary" K b 1794 Westmoreland Co PA - [email protected] Conrad G b abt 1655 - [email protected] Daniel S K - [email protected] Henry K b 1805 Indiana Co PA [email protected] Henry K b 1765 Haslint GER d 1859 GA [email protected] Joh Michael G d 1796 PA - [email protected] John C b 1730-31 GER d 1829 PA - [email protected] John Peter K, res 1810, Westmoreland Co PA - [email protected] John R Ko (1843-1909) Jefferson Co IN - [email protected] Joseph K b 1809 PA - [email protected] Louis K, GER>TX 1800's [email protected] Lovina K, 1857-1940, res York Co PA - [email protected] Mary K (Anna Marie) b 1794 Westmoreland Co PA [email protected] Michael G d 1796 PA - [email protected] Peter C, Columbiana Co OH - [email protected] You might let me know (if you think this is a good idea) whether we might abbreviate the last name of ancestor--such as "K" for Kunkel & Kunkle, "Ko" for Konkle & Konkel, "C" for Conkle & Conkel, "G" for Gunkel & Gunckel, "Kmn" for Kunkelman, "Klr" for Kunkler, etc. Thanks! 2. Nina Santoro
    3. Do any of these names look familiar? Am looking for a connection of the above names. Was told by a relative that KUNKEL and KLOBEDANZ were cousins of Carl or Frederick William STAGE, whose name may have been STAIGER from DEU originally. The Stages lived in Waterbury, CT from 1880-90, then moved to Shelton (Huntington), CT, and finally to W. Haven, CT. Thanks in advance for any info on connections.

Query: Does anyone have information about Barbara Kondel who married Konrad Huffman on 26 June 1796 and had a son named Ferdinand Hoffman (Konrad changed the last name to Hoffman) on 7 December 1801 in Hemsbach, Bavaria? Ferdinand came to America circa 1855. His descendants settled in Northern Kentucky around Cold Spring, Newport, and Ft. Thomas. I have NO information on Barbara (except the marriage date) or her immediate family or ancestors. Thanks in advance, Stephen Emery Louisville, KY

    2. >>>Question for the serious minded.. As our Kunkle and or other Prussian ancestors were actually born in Prussia why not do we refer it as that in lieu of Germany? The first ten correct answers will receive, ................ my compliments.. Here are a few of my ideas: 1 - Not all Konkles were born in Prussia. 2 - Prussia extended into a greater part of what is now Poland 3 - Germany did exist as a country from the Treaty of Verdun (834) until the Thirty years war which ended in 1648 with the country divided into 100's of small principalities. 4 - Germany did not exist as the country we know now until after most of our Konkle ancestors had already arrived in the New World 5 - Prussia did not develop into a strong principality until the 1700's under Frederick the Great which is also after many of our Konkle ancestors arrived here

    1. Prussia or Germany
    2. Answer to the serious minded: I will accept your compliments and take a stab at answering the question. At the time the Kunkels of Floersbach, Hesse-Nassau lived in Europe, that part of what is now Germany did not belong to Prussia. That did not occur until after the Napoleonic Wars, in the 19th century. _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. 1. Unidentified subject!
    2. Hi to all, I am wondering if any of you who are working with the Northampton, now Monroe and Lehigh, County, Pennsylvania Kunkels could help me with something. I am researching the family of George Kunkel, born 1741 in Floersbach, Hesse, Germany, died 1811 in Northampton County, PA, and married Esther sometime around 1764. His children seem to have been Johann Jurg 27 Jul 1766-infant Anna Sabina 6 Oct 1767 George 9 Nov 1769-1 Aug 1854 Susanna Margaretha 5 Jan 1722 Adam 1 Feb 1774-bet 1820 and 1830 The above were all mentioned in the records of the Hamilton Church. Then comes my problem. I found an entry in the Heidelberg Church records for the birth of Maria Barbara Kunkel born 22 Jun 1776 to George Kunkel and CATHERINE! In the Hamilton Church records Esther is mentioned in 1774 four times, the birth of her son Adam in February, attending communion at Easter, the baptism of a godchild and attending communion in November. Neither Esther or George are mentioned in those records again in any way. So my first question is - does anyone have a record listing Ester by name after November 1774? The rest of George's children are Maria Barbara 22 Jun 1776-12 Oct 1853 Elisabeth 26 Sep 1775-24 Mar 1853 Maria 1 Jan 1781-26 Jan 1864 Peter 27 jun 1786-12 Jul 1859 Margaret 30 May 1787-30 Sep 1866 My other question is regarding Elisabeth. If the record for Maria Barbara's birth is correct, the date of 26 Sep 1775 seems rather unlikely for Elisabeth. Can anyone help? 3. Sure, here is the table of contents. Many of you may have certain of these pages from Jim already. Also, it is in need of updating, as it is from January, but it is a sort of snap-shot of what Jim has done and compiled from others up to then. Yikes, I just noticed I didn't specify the families on the index. I have only part of it with me now, and will have to send the first part, later. You can at least tell how many pages are included for that particular family. I don't have this book on my computer. It's all done manually. What Jim has sent me, I have tried to edit as best I could, plus I did an index for it. Index is 10 pages, 3 columns.
