    1. [GERMAN-AMERICAN-L] Understanding the Franco-Prussian War and Prussia
    2. Janet Reinhold
    3. Hello, and Merry Christmas! Here is a message sent by German-American-L that I thought would be helpful to our own list. Please forgive the repetition if you are also a member of that list. If anyone gets time to look at these and finds anything of interest, do pass it on! Thanks everyone for your patience. 3. Hello Mary, and all. Yes, actually the publisher is me so I make that final decision. All Rootswebbers & active members & contributors get the $23 price. This is the book that was $18 before it was published. I prefer to invoice you, since it's easier to keep track of, but will certainly accept a check. Also, it's easier to keep track of the Spindle money if you make it directly out to me. I will try harder to cash these things in a prompter manner. I'm doing the next newsletter now & hope to get that out in a couple weeks (just before Xmas, surely :)...) If there's any trustworthy retired folks out there who don't live too far from CA, won't you consider volunteering to be "Membership Chairman" and keep track of the money and subs? I have been getting into trouble because I forget things, and so people could send you checks, etc., and you could send me what they want. The trouble is, we're not an official association (unless Wallace K. had set that up years ago, I don't know) so I don't know how to go about doing it differently. Comments, suggestions? Do you all think we should set up an association? Thanks for your patience! Oh, and by the way, think twice about hitting the return button on this list, as some things that should go directly to me are being distributed to folks who don't really care about it (and then maybe it reminds folks to bug me, so maybe that's good). Anyway, you have to think about it. Anyone know of a good library in GERMANY, Poland, other Europe, CANADA, Australia, etc. that would reach folks in those countries? I could send a few books to them, too. Janet Reinhold, PO Box 4001, Covina CA 91723-0401

    2. In a message dated 98-11-28 00:44:27 EST, you write: << The name of the book is officially "The Kunkel-Kunkle Family in America Before 1800," the author James E. Kunkle, and editor Janet Reinhold. Published by Future Packaging, PO Box 4001, Covina CA 91723. (c) 1998 James E Kunkle. Its ISBN is 1-891406-19-1, for comb binding, and 232 pages total. List price is $30.00. Also available in Looseleaf binding, same list price. PLEASE NOTE: Members of the family have a special price of $23 for this book. >> Janet, it sounds as if you are very busy. I would like to order the book, in loose leaf binding. I am a descendent of a Kunkle (Hans from Neuhutten) . Does this qualify for the $23.00 price? Do I send the check to the address of "Future Packaging"? You asked for suggestions of libraries to send the book. I live in south- central Pennsylvania, where the Kunkle name has a long history. May I suggest two in this area: York County Historicial Society, 250 E. Market St, York PA 17404 (They have previous work by James E. Kunkle) Pennsylvania State Library, Genealogy Room, Forum Bldg, Harrisburg, PA 17120 Thank you for all your hard work on the Kunkle family history. It has been invaluable to me. 3. Hooray, Janet. This is the info I have been waiting for. If we order directly from the publisher will we get the family price for $23.00? I would like to see a copy go to the Dallas Public Library Genealogy Section. It is one of the largest in the Southwest. What info do you need to send a copy there? The supervisor is Lloyd Bockstruck who also writes a column in the Dallas Morning News every Saturday on genealogy and reviews books he receives. I also heard him speak one time. He is very interesting. Thanks much to you and James Kunkle. Happy Hunting. Some members are getting a review copy of the book because they have been contributors to it. If you have not gotten a copy, and think you should have, either by having sent in money or by contributing a great deal to it, please let me know next week. Many copies have been sent already, but some haven't, since I was binding them myself and that, too, is a slow process. Thankfully, this "Thanksgiving" weekend I have done some catching up.... When you all do get your copies, you are granted permission to answer queries and can quote the book all you like. I would do it, but am having a difficult enough time downloading email properly (in a timely fashion) lately. I'm hoping we can get some good discussions going! I am sending this book to H. Goebel in GER, and to several libraries in the US. If you have a particular library you feel should have it, please let me know. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving holiday! Janet

    1. Conkle AND Kunkel? - McCARRELL Obit
    2. Janet Reinhold
    3. BOTH CONKLE and KUNKEL? The following obit is of interest to me mainly because a "Leman McCarrell" married Margaret Jeannette "Jenny" CONKLE (b 25 July 1878, d 23 Jan 1914, is buried at Mt Prospect Cemetery in Hickory, Washington Co PA), who was a sister to my great grandfather, William Conkle (also spelled Concle), and to David Shannon's grandmother, Rachel Francina ("Ina") Conkle--our Conkles also from Washington Co PA. I have no idea if Leman was related to this man.... If you read closely, you'll also see a reference to a "President Judge George Kunkel" of Harrisburg. I also do not see a likely connection between him and my Conkles. However, I'm always fascinated by seeming coincidences like this, and always on the lookout for that "missing link" to our Conkle/Kunkel etc families. Besides, of course, DNA testing. Jim Kunkle looks so much like my Uncle Bill Conkle, well, I just know we're all connected, even if you have to go back to Germany (or do a DNA genealogy!)...
