Kuhns, 67, passed away early Friday, June 20, 2014, at his home. He was born Nov. 7, 1946, at home, the son of the late C. Arthur and Hazel Kuhns. Gene was a graduate of Lakeview High School and had attended Youngstown College (Youngstown State University) before going to serve in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, he married his sweetheart the former Gena Snowden on July 26, 1969. Together they have shared nearly 45 years of marriage and their three children, Danielle, Kimberly, and Brian. Gene retired in 2004 as an operator from Alcan Aluminum with 38 years of service. During his free time he had enjoyed bowling with his wife and golfing, and was a very active member of AA, where he had recently earned his 10-year coin. Gene also enjoyed sharpening saws but most of all he loved spending time with his six beloved grandchildren. He leaves behind his wife, Gena of Cortland, OH; three children, Danielle Tenney and husband Chris, Kimberly Wilkes and husband Rick, and Brian Kuhns, all of Champion; his sister, Joyce Hall, and brother Larry Kuhns, both of Cortland; six grandchildren, Max and Morgan Tenney, Katilyn and Matthew Wilkes, and Westin and Owen Kuhns; his mother-in-law, Dorothea Snowden of Warren; and his longtime friend Beth Layman. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother-in-law, Donald Hall. A memorial service in honor of Gene's life will be held Thursday, June 26, 2014, at the Cortland Christian Church, beginning at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Barnes officiating. Military honors will be rendered following the service by the Trumbull County, Ohio Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the start of the service at the church. Donations may be made to either All Caring Hospice or to the Taussig Cancer Institute, 2010 E 90th St, Cleveland, OHIO 44195 . Arrangements are being handled by the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland.
