He retired as Supervisor of Operations for the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education in 1984, after 20 years of service. He had served 21 years in both the US Navy and the US Air Force, retiring as chief master sergeant in the Air Force. He also was a member of the VFW Post 111, and the Air Force Sergeant's Association. He was a former member of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Gayle C. Devriese, of the home; one son, Allan J. Devriese, Kansas City, KS; one daughter, Victoria B. Johnson, Kansas City, KS; one sister, Clara Hansen, Emporia, KS; and eight grandchildren.
