My (childhood) hometown is Holdrege, Nebraska, but I have been living in Louisville, Tennessee since 1997. My Wyandotte County connection is through both my maternal and paternal lines. My maternal grandmother, Alice Mack Turner, was born in KC, Wyandotte County in 1907 to Henry McNamara (later Mack) who emigrated to Wyandotte County from County Clare, Ireland in the 1870s, and Ida Mae Ryan Mack, who was born in either Leavenworth or Wyandotte County. Alice and my grandfather, Jesse Orville Turner (b. 1906, Columbia, MO) lived in Wyandotte County until they retired to the Lake of the Ozarks. My paternal line, the Klamms, emigrated from Mannheim, Germany to Wyandotte County in the 1860s. My granderfather, George Lewis Klamm (1899) son of John Christoper Klamm and Annie Heamann, and my grandmother, Bessie Elizabeth Storey Klamm (1899) daughter of Robert and Ida Odell Story lived in Wyandotte County until they retired to a farm near Louisville, Miami County, KS. There is a Klamm Park in KC, Wyandotte County created from land owned by a great something uncle, Peter Klamm. Both of my parents, Richard Klamm (1932) and Beverly Turner Klamm (1935), were born in Wyandotte County. I have gained much already by being a member of this list, but my ultimate goal is to trace my maternal great great grandfather, Michael McNamara, back to a township or parish in County Clare, Ireland. I also like piecing together the day-to-day lives of my ancestors - jobs, churches, social events, etc. Just how they lived and what they did. I find many of the postings by John and others to be a terrific insight into those things very things. ~kate ------------- > >> Hello, >> >> You are one of 94 members on the Wyandotte County Mailing List. >> >> As we begin a new year, I thought it would be interesting to >> know a little something about us members, and maybe even >> help each other, so I'm requesting that you respond to this >> note with the following: >> >> Your location - city and state .......... or just state >> >> How you are connected to Wyandotte County >> >> What you hope to gain by being a member of the Mailing List >> >> >> =================================================== >> >> Perhaps someone on the List will be able to provide you with >> information. Kate, in the book "The Consolidated Ethnic History of Wyandotte County" by Loren L. Taylor, there is a write up about Christopher KLAMM who married Maria Katherine BRENNER. They were born in Mannheim Germany and had 10 children: Peter, Eva, Henry, Martin, Caroline, Charles, Susan, George and Benjamin. There is information of Christopher's and Maria's movements in the area. Also in the book is info about Peter KLAMM and how Klamm Park came about. Are you aware of the above?
