My grandpa never really mentioned a downtown. He did talk about them going to town one time and the "hired lady" barricaded herself in their house because she heard their parrot talking outside -- he talked in different voices, she thought someone was after her =-) So, I am assuming that they didn't really have a downtown, but I could be mistaken. While my roots are in Wyandotte, I have never lived in Wyandotte. My paternal grandfather insisted that my parents move to Johnson County to try to gain more clients for their firm. Now, I'm in Finney County on the other side of the state. So, I can't answer your question about how loud it gets.
