Here is a link to the Genealogical Society that includes both a mailing address and a telephone contact. Telephone contact in the body of the description under Hours Open: http://www.kckpl.lib.ks.us/wycohelp/wycohelp.htm?id=178 If you are unsuccessful in contacting the Genealogical Society, you can contact the Wyandotte Museum/Historical society. http://www.wycokck.org/dept.aspx?id=770&menu_id=1012 I don't know about Woodlawn, but cemeteries that are so old as to have no administration, are normally put under the aegis of the Parks Department. Which, in my opinion, does a miserable job of upkeep with many. Good Luck! Thanks for the info; I have been to the museum many times but sadly it's very sporadic as to when you can find anyone that knows anything. The archivist is very helpful and some of the volunteers are too, but many don't have the knowledge I'm seeking. Sadly their hours and mine never seen to coincide. Woodlawn has been in care of the Parks Dept for many years and it's condition isn't good. There's a huge section of the cemetery that I think has become overgrown by trees and brush and almost gives the impression that it's beyond the cemetery boudaries. But in doing research and trying to ascertain locations of graves that are visible and listed in the book, I think it's part of the cemetery and has somehow become so overgrown over the years that no one realizes it's part of the cemetery. Grass hasn't been cut, trees haven't been trimmed back, that type of thing. I haven't any idea who would be in charge of something like this, that truly cares, but my family is in there and it greatly disturbs me. Unless they have a love of ancestrial burial ground, I'm sure it's just another area that has grass to cut and thousands of markers to trim around. Thanks again, Melissa Pat Williams <genealogistgrrl@gmail.com> wrote: Here is a link to the Genealogical Society that includes both a mailing address and a telephone contact. I have complained to the Parks Department about other cemeteries, in the past, and they at least have stepped up the efforts regarding weeds and mowing. My suggestion is to put your detailed complaints in writing and forward to the Kansas City, KS, mayor and council. If you are a resident and have your own council member, that's even better. *Parks and Recreation Department - Wyandotte County Administrative Office* 5033 State Avenue Kansas City, KS 66102 (913) 573-8327 Fax (913) 596-7088 http://www.kckpl.lib.ks.us/wyco/parks/parks.html Patricia On Sun, Mar 9, 2008 at 12:50 PM, Melissa Blackman <roseladym@yahoo.com> wrote: > Thanks for the info; I have been to the museum many times but sadly it's > very sporadic as to when you can find anyone that knows anything.
