I'm not sure that I understand what the charges are nor exactly what the Missouri site that you're talking about is. The only online Star obits that I have found and get free access to through my library, only go back to the early 1990s. My area library also will order KC Star films for no charge; I didn't realize that may be because I'm in MO. The only suggestion that I have is to see if an area university library or your Mormon family center has any kind of agreement that will get them for no charge. That and you might try to ask for an obit look-up on either on this site or the Jackson County, MO, site.
