    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.wyandotte/1425.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: cbrown The Kansasan Star was not published in Wyandotte County, KS in the 1960s. Moslt likley you are looking for the Kansas City Kansan, a daily. In your time frame the Kansas City (MO) Times was the morning paper (6 days) and the Kansas City (MO) Star was the evening paper (6 days) and the Sunday morning paper. The KC Times and Star papers are the major papers in the KC metro area, inclunding Wyandotte County. Most likley his obituary appeared in one of these newspapers. However one could have also appeared in the Kansas City Kansan. The Social Security Death Index lists 4 Edward Brown(s) who had a Wyandotte County address as their residence. The only one that comes close to your description is Edward Brown, 30 Apr 1878 - Jun 1967 making him about 89 years old. SSAN is 486-10-2561. Look here and limit the search to the state of Kansas and the county of Wyandotte http://ssdi.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi Obituaries of the 1960 time period are not indexed for either the KC (MO) Times or Star newspapers. Mr. Brown could have died in either Kansas City, Kansas or Kansas City, MO (depending on if he went to a hospital in either city or died at home). He also colud be buried in either Wyandotte County, KS or Jackson County, MO. The local libraries will not look up an obituary without the exact death date. Most of the cemeteries in Kansas City, MO are not indexed, while most of the Wyandotte County cemeteries are indexed. So it may be possible to find his death date that way. I would recommend the follwoing for your search. The Kansas State Historical Society has newspaper microfilms available for interlibrary loan to your local library or LDS Family History Center. Have your librarian get the films for the Kansas City Kansan and check those first for an obituary. If you find one and get the death date, then the KC MO papers can be checked. Visit this link to search for the newspaper microfilm numbers you will need. Just enter Wyandotte in the County box and 1967 for the start and end dates. This will list all the papers in Wyandotte County. You will need two films. Note that one ends on 30 June 1967. So if he died on June 30th the obituary will not appear until July 2 or 3, 1967. http://www.kshs.org/library/news.htm Also check out the link to the KSHS interlibrary loan policies from the link one the above page. If you have any more questions, please post. Good Luck Dave Goldy Overland Park, KS
