    3. Hi Caroline, Your request is a difficult one, because the name is so common. I suggest that you contact the Wyandotte County Museum Trowbridge research library and ask for a look-up of James in the Kansas City, Kansas city directories in 1939/40. http://www.wycokck.org/dept.aspx?id=804&menu_id=1012&ekmensel=1012_submenu_0_link_2 Email: info@wycokck.org If they should respond, the downtown Kansas City, Kansas Public Library might comply. There was a list of James Coxes that enlisted for WWII from Kansas on Ancestry, all born between 1915-24, however, only one who enlisted IN Kansas City, Kansas. It would be helpful if you lucked onto a middle initial from the city directory to narrow down the chances that this was him, especially since he lists no dependents. I should warn you that the men didn't always enlist in their home city, for whatever reason. This looks to me like an enlistment in the National Guard, but I'm not sure of that. I don't know how complete these records on Ancestry are. You can always contact the National Archives. You can now order military records online with a credit card. They are very speedy and really quite reasonable. http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/military/ U.S. World War II Army Enlistment Records, 1938-1946 about James F Cox Name: James F Cox Birth Year: 1921 Race: White, citizen (White) Nativity State or Country: Illinois State: Kansas County or City: Wyandotte Enlistment Date: 23 Dec 1940 Enlistment State: Kansas Enlistment City: Kansas City Branch: Infantry Branch Code: Infantry Grade: Private Grade Code: Private Component: National Guard (Officers, Warrant Officers, and Enlisted Men) Source: National Guard Education: 1 year of high school Civil Occupation: Tracktor Driver* or Truck Driver, Heavy or Chauffeur or Truck Driver, Light An asterisk (*) appearing after a job title indicates that a trade test for the particular occupation will be found in the United States Employment Service Manual, Oral Trade Test Marital Status: Single, without dependents Height: 71 Weight: 175 -------------------------------------------------- This is the only James Cox in Kansas with a mother Elsie in the 1930 census.
