There was a list of James Coxes that enlisted for WWII from Kansas on Ancestry, all born between 1915-24, however, only one who enlisted IN Kansas City, Kansas. It would be helpful if you lucked onto a middle initial from the city directory to narrow down the chances that this was him, especially since he lists no dependents. I should warn you that the men didn't always enlist in their home city, for whatever reason. This looks to me like an enlistment in the National Guard, but I'm not sure of that.
