Joseph L. LANDREY of Argentine said he was opposed to the annexation of Argentine. He said he had worked against it and had voted against it, but had since found that annexation had been a good thing. He said that at the time of annexation Argentine was in a bad way financially; that the city could hardly obtain a bond issue. "Kansas City, Kas., took hold of the city's affairs, kept clean streets, which before had been untidy; transformed some of the old eyesores into parks and compelled the Metropolitan Street Railway Company to put in good cars and a better service," he said. Sidney R. WILLIAMSON of Rosedale spoke concerning the argument that Kansas City, Kas., intended to make a park of Rosedale. He said that was not an argument against annexation, but rather for it. "Parks raise the value of city property and the cost of keeping up the parks, as shown by taxes in both Kansas Citys, is insignificant," he said. Grant S. LANDREY and D. E. COPPER of Argentine pointed to many improvements in Argentine as an argument for annexation. Dr. B. M. BARNETT, chairman of the meeting, said the Kansas City Terminal Railway Company is opposing annexation because it does not want to build a viaduct connecting Rosedale and Kansas City, Kas. "As soon as Rosedale becomes part of a city of the first class it can compel the terminal company to build the viaduct and maintain it, under a provision of the state law," he said. ====================================================== (I have no connection with these families but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ====================================================== neirbo7 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
