Here's an interesting video about the Genealogy Branch of the Mid-Continent Library: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6ioRUv7N6Y
If you're planning a trip to KC for research, please note the following: The following is from the Mid-Continent Library's web page. http://www.mcpl.lib.mo.us/ Call them at: 816-252-7228 Genealogy Branch Closing - Spring 2008 Mid-Continent Public Library will move to the new Midwest Genealogy Center in May 2008. To make all the necessary preparations, the library will have to close the Genealogy Branch at 317 W. 24 Highway, Independence, MO for a considerable amount of time leading up to the move. We understand that people plan for months in advance for trips to use the library. If you are planning a trip to the library, we strongly encourage you to call or send email so we can let you know if your trip might fall during the time that we are closed. Once we determine the actual dates that the library will close and the opening of the new Midwest Genealogy Center, we will post that information on the library's website.
An even better way to see old houses in Wyandotte County - Go to http://www.wycokck.org/ Go to Departments - Appraiser - Parcel Search Agree to terms type in address--make sure the selection button is for address and not parcel search. I find this does not work with firefox..had to use internet explorer. If you poke around enough, you can find something similar for many larger cities. There is one I've found for Lincoln, Ne, too, with detailed records as to size, buildings permits issued, and other details besides the picture. I can take you back to William G's father, William D., b. 1808 in VA, and forward thru William G's son James William (my granddad). HOFFMAN, William D(1) : 1808 -1881 1808 William D. HOFFMAN was born 25 October 1808 in Virginia. His parentage is unknown. Occupations and naming patterns of William and his descendants suggest that he was related to the HOFFMAN/HUFFMAN family that immigrated to Virginia in 1714 at the invitation of Governor SPOTSWOOD. 1828 We believe William's first record of appearance was in the Virginia Marriages Index of 1746-1850. The database includes the listing of the William "HUFFAMAN" marriage to Fanny MITCHELL in Orange Co., Virginia, on 23 June 1828. These are their children: Elizabeth R. HOFFMAN, born 1835 in Virginia; married George W. KING; died 1914 in Washington DC Mary E. HOFFMAN, born 1839 in Virginia; died 7 August 1859 in Washington DC.
