    3. SCHEIDT, WYNE "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Wednesday, January 29, 1913 SERVICES FOR ALIEN BABY HERE. Nearly all of the $50 necessary to pay the transportation charges for sending the body of the immigrant baby, Karle SCHEIDT, who died on the train coming into Kansas City Sunday morning, to his parents in California, had been collected last night. Mrs. George H. WYNE, 2834 Prospect Avenue, obtained $15.50 among the clerks and business men in the Board of Trade Building yesterday. Several other persons took up contributions at the stock yards and at the Baltimore Hotel. It is believed the required amount will be procured by noon today. Any surplus will be sent to the family. A short funeral service probably will be held at the Quirk & Dixon undertaking rooms tomorrow afternoon. A Russian-German minister will be asked to officiate. The body will then be sent to Fresno, where the chief of police has been asked to notify the parents and arrange for the burial. ====================================================== (I have no connection with these families but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ======================================================

    1. Wyandotte County HORRIBLE!
    2. Jim Laird
    3. The Argentine Advocate Wyandotte County Saturday July 30, 1888 Horrible! After all the talking and writing about the filthy sanitary condition of our city, we are reliably informed of a privy vault on Metropolitan avenue that has just been completed, at a depth of four feet, that is within four feet of a cistern. No wonder we are in such great danger while such condition of affairs exist. It is the duty of the city officials to attend to these matters.

I believe that it was the Kansas City Kansan even at that time. However, Kansas City, MO, (adjacent to Kansas City, KS) also had newspapers that often covered major news in Kansas City, KS. There was a morning paper called the Kansas City Times and an evening paper called the Kansas City Star. Additionally, the Bonner Springs Chieftain would cover news to the west of Kansas City, KS. And The Leavenworth Times would sometimes cover news to the north or northwest. I suggest that you contact the downtown Kansas City, KS, Public Library www.kckpl.lib.ks.us/ and the downtown Kansas City, MO, Public Library kclibrary.org/ before you give up. Addtionally, the Trowbridge Library in the Wyandotte County Museum may be helpful. info@wyckc.org My own grandfather was killed in 1934 by an automobile and it was covered by both KCK and KCMO papers. 1. Wyandotte County Dr. Mary ANDREWS - Kansas City, MO - January 1913
    2. John O'Brien
    3. "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Wednesday, January 29, 1913 IT'S A FRIENDSHIP BUREAU. Are you lonesome, young man, or young woman? You need not be. Send your name and address -- or better, call at Swope Social Center, 1610 Campbell Street, and Dr. Mary ANDREWS, or one of her assistants, will see that you meet attractive companions. "Old-Fashioned Girl" and "Home Loving Young Man," who have written letters to The Star, and others like them, especially will be welcomed by Doctor ANDREWS. But there is room for all. You must fulfill only one requirement. The social center authorities must be convinced of your good character and sincerity. "We want every lonesome boy and girl, young man and young woman in Kansas City to let us help them form proper acquaintances," said Doctor ANDREWS last night. "Tell them to come to us. If there are those who for any reason cannot come here, tell them to telephone us or send us word and a representative of the Swope Center will call on them." And there is the chance, too, that some of those who go to the Swope Center will become interested in its philanthropic work. This work furnishes a variety of employment for willing hands, and, as anyone who ever tried it will tell you, is an excellent cure in itself for lonesomeness. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ======================================================
