Author: dgoldy1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.wyandotte/1566.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Take a look at this link for a list of the cemeteries. http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/wyandott/wy-browse.html#places The records are all over the place. Some are maintained by the cemetery, some are else where. The records for the Catholic cemeteries are maintained by the Archdiocese of Kansas City, KS, they have a web page with contact information. For a number of cemeteries in Kansas City, Kansas the records are maintained by the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Board. Some of the active cemeteries maintain their own records. A number of the cemeteries have been indexed by the county genealogical society. Your best bet may be to ask about specific cemeteries to see where the records may be. J. MANNING (Mary/Maire) I've been looking for. We believe she may be the daughter of Julia Sheehan SULLIVAN. Jack SHEEHAN would have been her older half-brother. Her half-sister would have been my great-grandmother, Agnes Bridget Sheehan HOFFMAN. Julia Sheehan SULLIVAN's first husband died in an epidemic, and she remarried a John SULLIVAN. The family came to the US about 1860 and appeared in the 1860 census for DC. Our last record of their family was in the 1880 census for DC, except for the letter to my great-uncle from Mary MANNING. Jack's obit mentions that his mother died a few months prior to his death at age 89. Is it possible to check the obits for late 1903, early 1904 for a Julia SULLIVAN? Thanks again! P. Author: GenealogistGirl Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.wyandotte/1563.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Have you scoured Delaware County records for the parents? At the US Genweb site, there is this section from a book entry: "Among the first settlers in this township(Elk) was James Martindale, who came in 1851. He proved to be one of the leading farmers in this community, as was also John Martindale, who arrived in 1851. John Martindale was a clergyman of the Christian Church and was a valiant expounder of its tenets for over a half century. He settled two miles northwest of Greeley. He organized the Christian Church at Greeley and was instrumental in erecting the building there." Also at the USGenWeb site for Delaware county, there is this marriage entry: http://iagenweb.org/delaware/vitalrecords/MR/1851.htm "NOTE: Married at my residence on the 26th day of the present monthly (Oct.) A. D. 1851 in Delaware County, State of Iowa Mr. Samuel Bishop, aged 23 years to Miss Lavina Overocker aged 17 years, both of Delaware County, Iowa. Witnesses present, David & Wm. Martindale. This the 28th of October 1851. John Martindale, Minister of the Gospel Recorded by John Benson County Judge Nov. 21, 1851" It would certainly appear that two brothers were witnessing a marriage performed by their father. This family file on Rootsweb lists Wm Martindale b. abt 1827, as John's son: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=britton-harringt&id=I15476 In the 1856 IA census in Elk Township, Delaware, IA,(on the US Genweb site) there is a Wm Martindale, born the same year as your William, living alone with a young son, James. It looks as if he may be a widower. In the 1880 census in Norton, the oldest boy's age would match that of James in the 1856 census. And Wm and Anna have seven children, the oldest being too old for her to have been the mother. Have you considered that there could have been a first wife named Anna Coffman who died and a second wife, also named Anna? It's unclear as to why you are requesting info on the Wyandotte County board, when your people are from Norton. I think it would help if you made that connectiom clear, assuming there is one. I have a lot of Decker family photos from an old family album belonging my Great Uncle Nick Duffett. Uncle Nick was named after Nikalaus Decker (see # 6 on the report). Brown. Anna married Joseph David in Muskingum County on Sep. 2, 1846. I have not been able to establish who Virginia and Anna's parents were and am not 100% sure that the Virginia Frances Brown who married James Harris is the one who is related to me. There was a Virginia Brown born about 1832 listed in the 1850 census with Joseph and Anna in Pittsburgh and a Virginia Brown born about 1832 listed in the 1850 living with a Theophilus Brown in Zanesville (a brother?). I realize that Virginia was married in 1849 and should be listed as a Harris wherever she is listed. Interestingly, one of Joseph and Anna's daughters moved to Kansas City, MO in the early 20th century. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
