"The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Monday, May 24, 1915 WED UNDER LOCUST TREE. Under a blossoming locust tree in the yard of the old home at 1419 Independence Avenue, now the residence of Jacob R. SHAPIRO, Ben KATZEFF and Miss Sarah GOLDSTEIN were married at 6:30 o'clock last night by Rabbi Samuel KANTOR. There were three hundred and fifty invited guests and almost as many uninvited, and the wedding feast was still in progress at 10 o'clock on the porch, where guests ate while those earlier at the festal board danced inside to the music of the SHAPIRO orchestra. The bride is the niece of the SHAPIROs. Thirteen years ago when her father, Morris GOLDSTEIN, was dying, her uncle promised him that his children should be married properly. In the carrying out of that promise, Mr. SHAPIRO last night almost set a new record in North Side wedding feasts. Judge Ralph LATSHAW of the criminal court, a guest of honor, spoke following the ceremony. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ======================================================

Only that if the obit was from the Kansas City Kansan, you might also ask for a look-up in the Kansas City Star/Times, where obits were also posted. In the case of my grandfather, who died in KCK, the MO obit and coverage of his death circumstances was better. That would be the Jackson county board, or, you could request film from your local genealogy center. It probably wouldn't offer any different info, but the mortuary should have kept a file on the deceased. I also urge you to contact the Wyandotte county courthouse, in case he filed a will. Wills can be rich with info. And if he lived in Wyandotte county for very long, the Wyandotte county museum might have info on him. The Trowbridge Library is pretty good about offering whatever resources they have. They have some wills; the latest that I've ever accessed there was 1936. I don't know whether they would extend to '59. You should tell them what you already know. They might have lists of county people who served in WWI or WWII. http://www.wycokck.org/dept.aspx?id=770&menu_id=1012 Those draft and military records are rich with info and available online at the National Archives. http://www.archives.gov/ More good luck, Pat Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm unfamiliar with this one, but it does have a tel number. Often times cemeteries will have some great info on those who are buried there, including next-of-kin, birthplace, etc, in other words, as much or more than is on the death certificate. Other times they will have nada. Depends on the cemetery. It's worth a try. 1150 North 38th, Kansas City, KS, 1-913-371-4040 It's terrific that Melissa is looking up the obit for you. Kudos, Melissa. "The Kansas City Journal" (Missouri) Saturday, May 21, 1892 INDEPENDENCE TOLD HIM TO "KEEP IT" The will of James B. STOVER, deceased, was filed yesterday for probate after a lapse of fifteen years. When the will was made it was placed in the keeping of J. J. ROBINSON, of Raytown, and he was told to keep it. Shortly afterwards STOVER died and no will was brought in. The general supposition was that the deceased died leaving no will. The widow a few days ago wished to sell the land and it then leaked out that STOVER had left a will, and when last seen Parson ROBINSON had it. An order was issued that Parson ROBINSON show up the will forthwith. Parson's explanation was that STOVER told him to keep it and he did so, never dreaming that it should have been filed for probate fifteen years ago. ====================================================== (I have no connection with these families but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ======================================================
