    3. Arlene, two questions: what is her name and why do you think the name of the street has changed? There is Kansas Ave. now. ----- Original Message ----- From: "arlene mckane" <amckane@hotmail.com> To: <kswyando@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 08, 2009 8:40 PM Subject: Re: [Wyandotte County] obtaining obituary Thank you so much I will try the optioins you gave me... I was able to get some information from the government office - so I do have her date of death and the it lists the address of her 'usual residence' ---- it states 401 Kansas Avenue. She died September 8, 1906 so that is the time period that this was the street name. If anyone knows any info about this area at the time -- I would be so appreciative. Thank you again. Arlene

    3. Arlene, here are my answers to your questions and I invite other's on the list to respond too: 1. Obituary (if any existed) of when my GG died. Answer: generally speaking, you will need the complete death date to obtain an obituary. If you have the date, you can contact the Mid-Continent Library in Independence, Mo., and they will do a search. They will need your mailing address to send you a copy if one is found. The library's email address is: ge@mcpl.lib.mo.us 2. How I would find out what the current street name is for the street listed for her at the time of her death. Answer: What is the street name listed. If you would have included it in your note, someone on this List may know the answer. I'm not positive but I think the Wyandotte Historical Museum may be able to help. Here is the Museum's link that has contact numbers: http://www.wycokck.org/dept.aspx?id=770&menu_id=1012 3. Then maps of the area from that time Answer: I think the Muslim is your best bet. I hope this has been helpful. 1. [Wyandotte County] Mailing LIST
    2. John and all thanks for the wonderful information. I have been away from home from Dec. 12 to present so did not have accurate KC information on hand to relpy to John's note. My Name is Glenn Dunavan in Great Bend KS. I have two email addresses, _grdunavan@hotmail.com_ (mailto:grdunavan@hotmail.com) and _mrd33@aol.com_ (mailto:mrd33@aol.com) . I am researching the Kelly/Kelley family who lived in KC Kansas in the Early 1900's to Present. Descendent Patrick Lewis Kelly (1956) is my Son in Law. I hope to be able to trace the Kelly/Kelly family back to earlier generations for the sake of my grandchildren. Family Stories told to my Son in law indicated that the reason the family stopped in KC area was because as they traveled from Maine to CA their transportation broke down.. Lewis Stanley Kelley/Kelly was born in Wyandote County KS in 1927. He spent most of his mature years in military before retiring to Bonner Springs Kansas. His two twin children born while he was in Calif. in the marines. Patrick Lewis Kelly and Kathleen Kelly born in 1956 in CALIF. went to Bonner Springs High School and Graduated about 1982. Lewis S Kelley shows up in 1930 Census. Father is listed by Ancestry Index as Richie Kelley (Original looks like Archie and Patrick says he understood his grandfather was named Archibald) Mother is listed as Berniece Kelley. with Children Edwina E., Leannd (should be Leonard) E. and Lewis S. In the household is Therisult R. Kelley who is listed as Mother, but is probably Step mother as she is 35 compared to Richie(Archie) who is 26. Siblings of Archie are Edna and Ada. The Birth of Richie (Archie) is listed as Kansas the birth place of his mother does not relate to the birth place of Therisult Kelley. while the young siblings appear to be her children with Richie(Archie's) father after the death of his first wife. I can find no records of this family prior to the 1930 Census concerning Richie and Bernieces families. Lewis S. Kelly had several wives but only know children are the twins born in Calif to his last Wife Katheen Chesney in Las Vegas Nevada in 1956. Kathleen Chesney Kelly died in Bonner Springs KS in 1996. I think she was Cremated but have no record of by what funeral home. Lewis Kelly is uncooperative with information to even his own children. Kathleen Chesney was born about 1927 in either OK or CA and had previous marriages and possible children. Any information on this family would be appreciated. **************New year...new news. 1. Re: [Wyandotte County] Wyandotte County Mailing List
    2. Pamela Tate
    3. When St. Mary’s Church was preparing to build the new Church, the Catholic Church sponsored nearly fifty of our Irish Catholic family for immigration from Portneuf, Quebec, Canada to Kansas City, Kansas.     James and Catherine Dunn Tate were the first of our Tate and Dunn families to immigrate. The Clans began to arrive in Kansas City, Kansas around 1845 in small groups where we settled not far from St. Mary’s at 5th and Ann.  We are proud to say that members of our family helped to build St. Mary’s Church.    We were Irish Immigrants who tended simple homes and were grateful to work unpretentious jobs.  Our children were born at home, on kitchen tables.  Yet, with enormous pride, our babies were baptized in the splendor of the Church with every family member standing near.   Great-Great-Grandfather, William A. Tate (1840-1903), owned the "first" 5&10 Cent Store, “W. Tate 5 & 10”, in Kansas City, Kansas. The store was located downtown, at 1918 North 5th Street.  …And my late Father, Dr. Wayne Tate, was Vice President of the Kansas Chiropractic Association for several terms in the 1980’s.  Dad had a practice at 37th and Everett for many, many years and was adored by his patients.       Eight generations of our family have lived out our lives in Kansas City.  My Sister, Brother and I all went to the same high school that our Parents and Grandparents went to, Wyandotte. Of course, our cousins were there, too!    More than 60 members of our Family are buried at St. John Cemetery, the original cemetery of St. Mary’s Church.  Founded in 1864, St. John’s remains the oldest cemetery in KCK, other than the Huron Indian Cemetery.    Many of our family remain in the Kansas City area.  Though much of our family have established new lives, and ventured to far away lands, instinctively, we welcome coming home.  Our frequent Tate-Cullen family reunions are crowded and fun with around a hundred of our clan gathering...many from faraway lands.  We have a blast.  (Sandy Lynn Martin from the Wyandotte County Message Board is one of my dearest cousins and an organizer of our amazing reunions)   As for me, I was raised in KCK and had a delightful childhood living within walking distance of most of my relatives. As an adult, I moved to KC, MO to be near my work and then to Johnson County, KS where I have lived for the past 35 years.  My two sons, now grown, now live in KC, MO.   I have been deep in genealogy for the past 40 years since my Grandmother graciously handed me “The Box”.  I have been hooked ever since.       I want to thank John O’Brien for all the diligent work he so generously shares with all of us.  I have been far too remiss in my thanks for all his amazing help…Many, many thanks, John!   Pamela Tate --- On Tue, 1/6/09, John O'Brien <JohnOBrien@kc.rr.com> wrote: From: John O'Brien <JohnOBrien@kc.rr.com> Subject: [Wyandotte County] Wyandotte County Mailing List To: "KS-Wyandotte" <KSWyando-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 11:05 AM Hello, You are one of 94 members on the Wyandotte County Mailing List. 2. Diane: Yes, we have corresponded before. Thank you so much. I hadn't seen you post anything recently, so I wasn't sure if you were still on the list serve or not. I'm glad to hear the home is on the historical registry now. I agree that it needs to be taken better care of, my mom and I would like to take a can of white paint over to have the owner paint the pillars (which actually were originally brick, not the wooden columns you see today). Nancy and Susie were my great aunts, Susie just passed away a few years ago. We were glad that she wasn't "with it" enough to know that she out-lived my grandpa. Thanks again! Lara Blake Bors Asst. I do know a little about your family. Primarily the Brown's as Wash Brown and my husband's grandparents were very good friends. They all attened Piper High School and graduated in the 1920's. I believe there was a nancy and a Susie Brown as well. Yes the house still stands. I have been told it is listed with Kansas as a Historical landmark. I wish the current owners would do more to restore its beauty. In the 1970's I worked for a very short time as a secretary for Blake, Uhlig & Funk in Kansas City, Ks. My girlfriend got me on and I truly wasn't ready for the job. However, they were fun to work for and at that time Wash Brown still had his office at the Brotherhood building in KCK as well. As I research I will send to you any and all I find. Iwill be away from genealogy for a couple of weeks, but when I get back to it I will check my PIPEr and WYCO files. I know that I kept some tidbits that may be of interest to you. I'm currently living in Garden City, Finney County, Kansas -- our most notorious claim to fame are the Clutter murders (Capote's In Cold Blood), and some beef packing plants. My family since my maternal great great great grandfather, Washington Brown, has lived in Wyandotte County. He homesteaded in Piper after the civil war and the home is still standing. Both maternal and paternal sides lived in Wyandotte County until my parents moved to Johnson County in 1960, but my father, John Blake, Jr., and grandfathers, John Blake and Wash Brown, practiced law in Wyandotte County. My dad graduated from Argentine High School and my mom (Denise Brown) and maternal aunt graduated from Wyandotte. I'm hoping to get tidbits about the Blakes, Hankins (paternal grandmother), Tolers (maternal grandmother), and Browns. I don't know much about the Blakes or the Hankinses. It's been wonderful connecting with a few people on the list and getting information about the old homestead and hearing from people who knew my family. It's also great to read some of the news articles that you put on, John. Thank you so much for that! Have a wonderful day!! As we begin a new year, I thought it would be interesting to know a little something about us members, and maybe even help each other, so I'm requesting that you respond to this note with the following: Your location - city and state .......... or just state How you are connected to Wyandotte County What you hope to gain by being a member of the Mailing List =================================================== Perhaps someone on the List will be able to provide you with information. This will be more probably if you include dates and names in your response. For example, saying "my grandfather lived in KC" will not get much of a response but saying "my grandfather, John O'Brien, lived in Argentine in the 1920s" might produce a result. It's up to you how specific you want to be. There is, of course, no requirement that you participate. However, simply responding: "I live in California and lived in Kansas City, KS in the 1950s" would be acceptable. Thank you for your consideration.
