The store is located in Weston, Missouri, and the photos are from midwestern regions, for the most part. Sizes are small to large, and dates seem to be 1870s-1890s, for the most part. The prices range from $1 to $10, I think, but the owner will assist you if you contact him directly. I am posting this on several surname and regional boards, so I apologize if you see this in more than one place. I do not know if the people mentioned below are related to others on this list, but if they are, that is why I list them all together, in no particular order. I am not related to anyone on this list, and I will not be able to go to the store for you. I happened to be there on a day trip. Hope you find a relative or ancestor! John Henry Brown, 1872 B. F. You might try the Wyandotte County Historical Museum for an obituary from the Kansas City Kansan newspaper. It may list his parents' names. The e-mail for the archivist is jthornton@wycokck.org The staff is great. The website is http://www.wycokck.org/gen/wyco_generated_pages/Historical_Museum_m1192.html You could also send away for a death certificate to the state of Kansas (www.accesskansas.org) Death certificates are $13 and list both parents' names. The last option would be to send for a copy of his original application for Social Security (through the SSDI index). This also lists parents' names. The cost is $27.

    3. I'm not sure that I understand what the charges are nor exactly what the Missouri site that you're talking about is. The only online Star obits that I have found and get free access to through my library, only go back to the early 1990s. My area library also will order KC Star films for no charge; I didn't realize that may be because I'm in MO. The only suggestion that I have is to see if an area university library or your Mormon family center has any kind of agreement that will get them for no charge. That and you might try to ask for an obit look-up on either on this site or the Jackson County, MO, site. 3. You didn't post where the people that you are researching lived. You might be able to get more specific info if the list knew exactly what neighborhood or community in Wyandotte county you are concerned with. Where you will find the obits for the Kansas City MO/KS area is really dependent on which funeral home the family used and which newspaper they read and wanted the obit in. Since the Kansas City Star/Times was and is the major paper for the area, it often will have the obits even when they are also in a KCK paper, simply because many funeral homes and families wanted as many people as possible to know about the death. But there are no rules that I've ever come across. One piece of info about the Star is that prior to about the 1970s, there were two daily papers printed in Kansas City, MO: a morning paper and an afternoon. So you should always check the Times(the morning paper) as well as the Star when you are researching prior to that time. The downtown KCK library has a pretty knowledgeable genealogy librarian. I suggest that you call or e-mail her for further information. http://www.kckpl.lib.ks.us/ And the Wyandotte County Museum now has a fulltime archivist who might also be helpful, especially if the family that you're researching lived in a county small town. http://www.wycokck.org/gen/wyco_generated_pages/Historical_Museum_m386.html Good luck, Patricia On 16 Jun 2006 19:24:40 -0600, frakon@cmsinter.net <frakon@cmsinter.net> wrote: > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HAB.2ACI/842 > > Message Board Post: > > I ordered 2 microfilms from the Kansas City Kansan only to find they > didn't carry the obits I was looking for. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HAB.2ACI/842.1 Message Board Post: I'm no expert, having only been doing research for 6 months, but is is my understanding that the KC Star has obits you can look up on-line if they are very recent. I believe 1997 forward. Prior to that, they are microfilm and you would need to contact the paper about getting those. You did not say what years you were looking for. As far as Wyandotte County goes, I know the Wyndotte County Historical Society has many old records and obits in their archives. I was looking though them last week myself. Hope this helps.

Surnames: MUSIC(K) Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HAB.2ACI/840 Message Board Post: I'm trying to discover the date of death for Noah Music or Musick. It would be sometime between 1910 and 1920--at least, he's in the 1910 census, but I haven't been able to find him in the 1920 or 1930 census. Noah was born in Kentucky in 1841 to Elijah Musick and either Nancy Combs or Elizabeth Pigman. He married Ann Powers in 1863. The couple had 9 children, 5 of whom were living in 1910. The family was living in Kansas City, Kansas, in the 1880, 1900, and 1910 censuses. A death certificate or obit might say he was born in Virginia, since that's given as his birthplace in the 1910 census (and West Virginia in the 1900 census). Any help much appreciated!
