    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HAB.2ACI/872.1 Message Board Post: I did a quick search at Ancestry for Estell Crockett. He registered for the draft in WWI as a resident of Liberty, MO with the middle initial A. He is in Fishing RiverTwp., Clay County, MO in the 1900, 1910 and 1930 Census. The family is enumerated in the 1900 census Sheet 9B on line 50: Crockett, John M born Aug 1849, Sallie (wife) born Sept 1861, Mary A (daughter) born Dec 1880, Roscoe (son) born Sept 1882, Inez (daughter) born Sept 1884, Estell (son) born Aug 1886 and Jewel (son) born Apr 1890. John M was born in Missouri, his father was born in Tennessee and his mother was born in Missouri. Sallie was born in Missouri as was her father, her mother was born in Kentucky. all of the children were born in Missouri. John and Sallie have been married 20 years. She gave birth to 5 children and all are living. They are farmers. In 1930, Estell is enumerated as Eslil. Sheet 7A still in Fishing River Twp., Clay Co., MO. Line 20: Crockett, Eslil A age 43 married at age 25, wife Ercell M age 40 married at age 22, daughter Sarah Louise age 15 but written over with 16. Could be a clue to her birthday! The census was taken on April 17th. Ercell was born in Missouri, her father was born in South Carolina and her mother in Missouri. They are still farmers. Clay County Missouri is on the North Edge of Jackson County (Kansas City, MO). You might check with the Kansas City Missouri Library http://kclibrary.org/index.cfm I have had good luck contacting them for information.

    1. Re: [KSWYANDO] Obituary Wanted - Gordon Weir died July 1986
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HAB.2ACI/869.1 Message Board Post: Minga Most likley Gordon's obituary was published in the Kansas City (MO) TIMES or STAR newspapers. They are the major metropolitian newspapers for the area. Your best bet is to contact the Mid Continenant Library Genealogy Dept in Independence, Mo. They have an obituary scrapbook of all obituaries published in both the TIMES and STAR newspapers from 1979. It is indexed, so it is no problem to find an obituary with only the Social Security Death information, as you have. Visit this link, and send an email request to the email address in Item 5. They can transcribe the obituary and return it to you via email if you want. They will also tell you if they do not find an obituary. It usually only takes a couple of days for them to transcribe the obituaries, so the service is pretty fast. http://www.mcpl.lib.mo.us/branch/ge/researchpolicy.htm Your request will need to state the name, death month and death year for them to find the obituary. The index is partly keyed to the death date. Good Luck Dave Goldy Overland Park, KS

    2. Pat Williams
    3. Hi Sandra, I accessed late 1800 - 1910 land deeds at the Wyandotte County Court House in downtown Kansas City, KS, during weekday hours. I can't remember what the name of the department is, but I got pointed in the right direction by the police officer and also by the woman in Vital Records. I'll give you a heads-up that the person at the front desk of the land deeds department was not receptive to my search. I had to get nicely insistent and then another person happened to come in who allowed me into the back to access and search. It surprised me that they weren't used to genealogists, as I often research elsewhere that really is prepared to accommodate. There seemed to be real estate or mortgage agents in the back with me who were also searching. They had two microfiche readers. They also seemed to know nothing about old land plats in that department and I ended up having to go down to the lower level for that department. Again, I cannot remember the name of the specific dept but think it was something like Surveys. I was able to pay for both a copy of the deeds that I wanted and was able to get a large copy of the old land plat. In this case, it was for the Piper area. All was reasonable, around $2 per set.
