I was just at our local library today looking at a book for Woodlawn and went to the cemetery. It isn't closed exactly but it's been taken over by the Parks Dept and it is not maintained well. I actually did see one current marker from 1998 which surprised me. There's so many vandalized markers and dozens and dozens missing. You can still visit it but I wouldn't recommend anyone going alone or when it isn't broad daylight. The next time I'm at the library I can look for his name and when I make the next trip to the cemetery, I can look for a marker if one exists. Sheryl Miller <s.miller1st@sbcglobal.net> wrote: Hi! However, births were not always reported in the paper .... some years they would be published and some years not. Also, when the births were published, KCK's births were not always included. We're desperately in search of the place of a birth of a family member that has just died, and her birth certificate cannot we located. We're hoping the BIRTHS section of the newspaper might tell us if it was KCKS or KCMO. I can't think of any other options, with Topeka being closed on weekends. The place of birth we're seeking is for Jacqueline Joyce Taylor, daughter of Ralph H. Taylor and Alberta Benskin. She was born July 14, 1933. I thought I took you request to the library today when I did several other lookups. I must have forgot to take a look, because I don't have anyting for him in my results pile :-(. I will look later this week, and see what I can find. Most likley the obituary was published in one of the Kansas City, MO newspapers. They were the major metro papers even back then. I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the HOADLEY Family of Colorado. The first is a photograph of Frank HOADLEY which was taken at the Oiler Studio in Denver, CO. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's or 1900's with Frank likely in his 30's at the time. The second photograph is one of Ruth Muriam HOADLEY which was taken at the DeLux Studio in Denver, CO. This photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Ruth's age noted on the back of the photograph as 1 year. Based on limited research I was able to locate this family in census records as follows: 1910 census of Cheyenne County, CO: Frank HOADLEY, age 35, married 15 years, born MN, parents born MN, a Farmer Katy HOADLEY, wife, age 34, married 15 years, 4 children/4 living, born OH, parents born OH Howard HOADLEY, son, age 14, born ND Thelma HOADLEY, dau, age 11, born ND Ruth HOADLEY, dau, age 8, born ND Winnie HOADLEY, dau, age 5, born ND 1920 census of Kansas City, KS: Frank HOADLEY, age 46, born MN, parents born OH, a Steam Shovel Engineer Catherine HOADLEY, wife, age 48, born IA, parents born OH Ruth HOADLEY, dau, age 18, born ND, a Smoke Co. Office Clerk Winifred HOADLEY, dau, age 14, born ND Alfred HOADLEY, son, age 5, born KS George SPENCER, son-in-law, age 24, born KY, parents born KY, a Steam Shovel Fireman Thelma SPENCER, dau, age 20, born ND Hazel K. SPENCER, granddau, age 11 months, born KS I'm hoping to locate someone from this HOADLEY Family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
