If you can determine that Grover and John H. were both in Kansas City, MO, there are old city directories at the KC Public Library. I don't know if a librarian will help you or not. And Wyandotte County also has city directories. I did look in the MO State Death index online. It only goes through 1954. I could not find them. Author: GenealogistGrrl Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.wyandotte/1499.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The family is in the 1895 KS State census in Argentine, Wyandotte, Kansas. There are only the three children that you noted. I'm not sure that they would have had more, since John is only 10. The family is also in the 1900 census in the same place. Their name is misspelled as Hert. John is John H., born Sept 1884. Grover C. is probably Grover Cleveland born Sept 1888. John H. is probably the John Henry Kent in the WWI Draft Registrations, living in Kansas City, Jackson, MO. The birthdate is Sept 22, 1882, but it could still be him. I couldn't find Grover. There is also a 1910 marriage that looks like it would be John H.'s, because he is from Argentine, Wyandotte. And a 1931 marriage that may be his. Both from Jackson County, MO. And there is a 1918 marriage that may be Grover's. You can find them here and save and download the original documents: http://records.co.jackson.mo.us/search.asp?cabinet=marriage If you have any problems, let me know. If you can find William's death date and an obituary, it should tell you more about his children. And if Malinda died in Wyandotte County, you may be able to find the cemetery record at the Trowbridge Library, Wyandotte County Museum. From there, you might find an obituary. info@wycokck.org I'm sending you the above documents offline. Good luck, Patricia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Sometime after the Civil War, he left NC and ended up in Missouri married to Malinda or Melinda Unknown (b. abt 1857 in MO as were her parents). Wm. & Malinda are listed in the 1880 Ray County, Camden twp. MO Census with a Daughter Ida. I cannot find them in 1900 but in 1905 census they are listed in Argentine, Wyandotte Co., KS with 3 children: Cordie (Cordelia)19 yrs old, Grover C 16, John 21 (a fireman)all born in MO. In 1910 they are still in Wyandotte Co. KS with Cordie and Grover C. I suspect there were other children born to this couple between 1880 and 1889 in Missouri when the couple's last child Grover C. was born. In 1920 William had returned to Greene Co TN, and was living with his niece Hattie [Kent] Talley and he says he is a widower. Also living with them is his daughter Cordelia [Kent] Noland who is also a widow and she has two Children: Harry K and Alberta Noland. I appreciate any help on this family as I cannot find either of the 2 sons, John Kent and Grover C Kent after 1905 or 1910. John Donaldson was known in the early Twentieth Century as the "Greatest Colored Pitcher In The World." We have been tracking his playing career for several years and more information is available at: www.johndonaldson.bravehost.com We are looking for a very specific instance when Donaldson played in Wyandotte county. We have a reference that mentions Donaldson playing in Kansas City, Kansas. On July 29, 1933, Donaldson and the John Donaldson All Stars crossed bats with the Kansas City Donkeys club in Kansas City. We would like someone to check the local Kansas City newspaper if one exists. Donaldson traveled throughout the Upper Midwest during his near 40 year playing career. Some say he would have been the best pitcher in the Major Leagues in his prime of 1910 to 1917. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested in the Donaldson effort, we can send you some background on Donaldson's many exploits in other parts of the Midwest.
