The Washington Republican Washington County Friday September 10, 1897 A Little Blaze. Tuesday just before dinner time a boy rode in town on a horse and announced that Henry BICKEL's hosue was on fire. With the ususal haste the citizens ran to the scene of the fire, about a quarter of a mile from the square, in the south part of town. The persons who first got there commenced to work by pouring water on the roof, while others began to carry things out of the house, the fire had caught from a defective chimney and was well under way. Presently the boys came with the new chemical fire extinguishers and soon had the fire under control. Some say the building would have burned hd it not been for the work done with the extinguishers, while others say the fire was under control before the fire boys came. Mr. Bickel was in the school hosue and knew nothing of the fire till it was all over. His daughter Anna was cooking dinner when the fire caught. Mr. Bickel has his house is insured, so it is likely he will get his roof repaired by the insurance company.
