The Washington Republican Washington County Friday September 10, 1897 A Billiard Hall. Washington is now promised with another enterprise, one she has not had for many years because the sentiment of the people has been so strong against it that no city council has dared grant a man permission to run one. The management of a billiard hall is under control of the city authorities, and the power vested in them is by an ordinance passed some time ago. As stated before, the reason Washington has been clear from a billiard or pool room, is because the people are unanimously opposed to one, and they would not encourage a city council in permitting one to start. Just what the attitude of the people now is, we are unable to say, or just how the city council stands on the question we do not know, but Henry KING, who lives in the north part of the city is making preparations to open a hall as soon as he can get ready, and is looking for a suitable building. We are informed by ex-Mayor WOODBURY that application was made by some one last years to open a billiard room but h! e and his council emphatically set down on the proposition and no more was heard of it.
