    3. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday December 11, 1896 Max SAVOIE, who lives three miles south east of Greenleaf was in town Tuesday and reported that his son, Ed., who was shot a few weeks ago out in Colorado on a ranch was getting along all right. His son-in-law, Ben GILLIAM was hot by the same man, HART, who shot Ed. Sovoie and he died the day after the shooting. About a year ago Ed. Savoie left his county to make his home with Mr. Gilliam in Colorado. They rented a farm of Mr. Hart, who was in the habit of driving every renter off the farm just before harvest time, and then take all the crop. He tried the bluff on his two renters and it resulted in a quarrel which led up to the shooting. Mr. Hart was wounded by Mr. Gilliam, but not seriously. It is claimed that Mr. Hart was entirely to blame and commenced shooting first. He is now under arrest. Will PATRIE and wife are keeping house in town again having for several months been living in the country where Will helped Mr. GOOD on his farm. Mrs. S. A. SMITH came up from Clifton Friday and visited the PYM family, then went on to Omaha Saturday to visit her daughter, Mrs. T.S. DENMAN. Mike PURCELL was up from Clifton and spent Sunday with his family returning Monday. He will clerk for Mr. SIMON there till he takes charge of the clerk's office here. Last Friday evening Miss Alice B. CLARK arrived form Fox Lake, Wis., to visit a year or two with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. C.R. NYCE. When a small girl she made her home with them. The many friends of J.F. WAYLAND were glad to greet him Saturday when he made his first appearance on the streets since seven weeks ago. He has been very low with thypoid fever and for two or three weeks it seemed his time had come to depart this world into the next. He is yet weak from the effects of the disease, but able to walk to town and back.
