The Washington Republican Washington County Friday May 10, 1901 Mahaska. Mrs. Parry HIGGINS, better known as "Auntie" Higgins, was born Dec. 12, 1820 in Tennessee, and died May 4, 1901, after a brief illness, at the home of her niece, Mrs. James SIMMONS. Auntie HIGGINS was twice married and had been a widow for about twenty-eight years. She was one of the strongest characters one ever had the privilege of meeting and could but feel the influence of her unselfish, cheery nature. One brother, Levi LAKEY, and a host of friends mourn her death. The funeral service was conducted by her pastor, Rev. W.A. KEVE, Sunday, at 3 o'clock in the M.E. church. Although the weather was unpleasant a large number of friends assembled to pay their last tribute of respect. The remains were laid to rest in the Mahaska cemetery.
