    3. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday April 9, 1897 Still They Burn. A house belonging to John SHECKLER, Jr., burned Wednesday night over in the northeast part of town. Monday the house was vacated by N. STOLZER,and Tuesday Beill HILL and Dick MEYERS put a few things in the place and slept there. No one was in the building when the fire broke out, so nothing was saved, and not much lost. It was insured for $400. We saw Mr. Sheckler yesterday and he had no opinion as to how the fire started, but remarked that threats had been made that if he started another joint over in that part of town he would be burned out. He also added that similar threats had been made if he did not close up his joint down town.
