    3. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday May 7, 1897 Throop. Farmers are very busy planting corn. Spring and fall wheat looks well, the oat fields are not promising as a good portion of the seed rotted. The health of the neighborhood is quite good. Mr. CAMPBELL has stocked his store with a fine line of dry goods and sells at a low price. Gailia CAMPBELL is working near Ballards Falls. Mrs. MARKHAM who has been quite sick is able to be out again. John GEIBER of Strawberry has organized a class in music. Miss KREBBS closed a term of 8 months of school at this place last week with a very interesting literary program in the afternoon. Miss Stella THROOP and Howard MARKHAM have closed their schools each having given good satisfaction. J.W. JOHNSON is contemplating a visit to Clyde in the near future. Mrs. L.L. McCORMICK and son attended the meeting at Rusco Sunday. They report that church wa struck by lightning during the rain last week doing a good bit of damage. Although the day was very warm Tuesday quite a number of ladies were out walkig and making calls. The Easter hasts this year are gay affairs and the sight of them is indeed pleasing to the optic nerve.
