    2. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday July 5, 1901 Dr. P.R. PENCE was born at Dayton, Ohio, June 2, 1859, died June 24, 1901, at Clifton, Kansas. Deceased located at Clifton, Kansas, March 10, 1898 and established himself as a veterinary surgeon. Was married to Mrs. Ida SHAFER, of this city. He was a very cheerful man with a kind word and a smile for every one. He made many friends and one who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services was conducted by Rev. H. E. McBRIDE at the M.E. church, June 25. Remains were laid to rest in the I.O.O.F. cemetery north of town. A Friend.

NELSON is talking of going to Oklahoma. M.D. SPARKS had a horse killed by the west bound frieght Wednesday. M.D. SPARKS sold his store and goods to J. SAVAGE. Mr. SPARKS is going to Oklahoma. Miss Sarah GARRETT will move in her property vacated by W.F. THOMAS as soon as she gets it repaired.

    2. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday June 28, 1901 Fred Powell Weds. Wednesday of this week County Attorney Fred POWELL and Miss Marian FULTON of Marysville were married in the bride's home. We are informed the newly wedded couple will make a trip in Colorado and remain for a few weeks then return to make their home. Mr. POWELL is a well known attorney in this county and has a bright and promising prospect before him in his profession, and has a very large circle of warm friends who will wish him continued success in a business way and happiness the rest of his day as a married man. Mrs. POWELL is not known here personally, but by reputation has a very high standing. She is from an excellent famiy and is a sister of Frank POWELL's wife. Two brothers having married two sisters. Washington people will welcome Mr. POWELL and bride when they return and wish them happiness and prosperity.

    2. The Washington Repubican Washington County Friday June 28, 1901 Teachers Have Been Hired. Wednesday morning of this week the school board held a meeting for the purpose of selecting teachers for the coming school year. There were a few vacancies to be filled on account of teachers resigning. The superintendent, L.W. MAYBERRY, had already been selected, but the principal had not been. The board deemed the position of principal a very important one and selected, on the recommendation of Superintendent Mayberry, E. M. BOWERS, a graduate of the State Normal. Other teachers selected are as follows: Room 8, C.E. INGALLS Room 7, Marjorie WHITTETT Room 6, Maud BOLT Room 5, Bertha BOND Room 4, Eva HOLLOWAY Room 3, Ada ROSS Room 2, Margaret ALGIE Room 1, Emma BAUMBERGER.

    2. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday June 28, 1901 Michael LIPSEY was born near Berlin, Germany, Oct. 5, 1818, and died in Washington on June 22, 1901. He came to this country in 1850, he was married Octo. 20, 1856. He was a soldier in the Union army for nearly 3 years. He has lived in this community for some years. He was born in the Catholic faith but left that denomination for greater religious liberty. He became a member of the M.E. church 13 years ago. His funeral was held in the M.E. church, June 23rd. J.G. HENDERSON.

    2. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday June 28, 1901 Tuesday, June 25, C.H. STANCLIF and Emma BOKEMEIR were married in the bride's home north of Barnes by Rev. MALOPEY, M.E. pastor of Barnes. Mr. STANCLIF is the proprietor of the Palace Restaurant and recently came here from Nebraska. He is an energetic young man and runs a first class restaurant. His bride formerly lived here and met Mr. STANCLIF a few months ago. Here is congratulations.

    2. The Washington Republican Washington County Frirday June 28, 1901 Mrs. Kate BENNETT, wife of Hiram BENNETT, aged 51 years, died in her home in the east part of the city Tuesday and was buried Wedesday. She had been an invalid for ten years or more, but her last illness was of short duration, being confined to her bed but a little more than a week. She was the mother ot ten children, five now living. Her husband also survives her. Mrs. Bennett was a good Christian woman and died in the faith of a Christian.

    2. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday June 21, 1901 Wm. HARGIS, one of the well known citizens of this city, died last week, June 13, and was buried Friday, June 14, his funeral was held from the Baptist church. Mr. HARGIS was an old soldier and for years had been an invalid. His brother, Marion, was here from Leavenworth to attend the funeral.

    2. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday June 21, 1901 Miss Rose LEE left here yesterday over the Burlington for Salt Lake City, Utah, and expects to arrive there tomorrow morning. On her arrival she will be married to John ALGIE, of this city. Mr. ALGIE recently moved to Salt Lake and has a position as civil engineer with the D. & R.G. He has spent most of his life here, except a few years when he was attending college in Lawrence. Miss LEE has spent most of her life here and for a few years has held a position in the Racket Store, of late has been cashier. Both Mr. Algie and his bride are held in high esteem in Washington and their many friends wish them happiness and prosperity.

FELDNER, of Topeka. They have taken up their abode here to make Washington their home. Mr. COOK is manager for the Chicago Lumber Co. His bride lived east of town for a time but moved back to Topeka with her people where the marriage took place. She is a sister of Mrs. John COOK, now living in Oklahoma. Washington people extend to Mr. and Mrs. COOK, their best wishes.

Little Charlie BUCK who has been very sick, is very little bettery at this writing. Jacob CODER is replanting his kaffir corn this week, it does not do to plant it too early in this country. Little Dolly CODER, who has been staying at her grandpa's for several weeks, returned to her home in Barnes Monday. E.W. GRINDLE is getting to be quite a horticulturist, he has some extra fine apricots, plums, raspberries and blackberries besides a large number of budded peaches, all are loaded with fruit.

    1. Obituary: Lewis Clinton BEESON
    2. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday July 14, 1901 Lewis Clinton BEESON was born in Wayne county, Indiana, April 8th, 1856, died in Fairhaven, Washington, June 9th, 1901. He was the oldest son of O.H. Beeson, who lives 5 miles northwest of Palmer, Kansas. When Clinton was nine years old his parents moved to Cass county, Nebraska, where they lived until May 1873, when they moved to Washington county, Kansas. On Dec. 23rd, 1877, Mr. Beeson was married to Belle McATEE, whose parents lived two miles west of Linn, Kansas. To them was born one daughter, Effie. He was a member of the A.O.U.W. lodge at Palmer, Kansas. Two years ago the 10th day of January, he with his family, started for New Whatcom, Washington, where they lived until his death. Mr. Beeson leaves as mourners a wife, daughter, father, mother, eight brothers and two sisters, and many friend in this county. He was honest and upright in all his dealings with his fellowmen, and his many friends will be pained to hear of his death, but God has called him to his reward. A Brother.

    2. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday June 14, 1901 Morrowville. W.D. MOLONY has purchased a tandem. Mr. GROUT lost a fine colt Sunday evening. WIll ROBBINS was painting C.W. HAWE's store the first of the week. A party was given on Thursday of last week in honor of Mr. and Mrs. PARKEN, it bing their 30th anniversary. Miss Effie BREEZE, from Dallas Co., Mo., came Saturday evening to stay and keep house for her brothers this summer.

    2. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday June 14, 1901 Greenleaf. Mr. DURHAM has given his buggy a nice black suit. A team ran away on our streets Tuesday evening but no hurt, unless it was the calf which was in the wagon. Mrs. WILLIAMS of Holton, visited with Will PRIEST and family and her daughter in Beloit this week, returning home Thursday. Oscar HUCKETT has added a bath room to his already (excellent barbershop.). This is a much needed article, and now gentleman take that neglected annual bath whenever you need it or not. Miss Della WARTENBEE's school closed last Friday with a basket dinner and program in the grove. One of Grenleaf's leading artists was there and photographed the school. The occasion was marred very much after dinner by Miss Della's horse getting choked to death while being tied to a tree. It is thought to be suicidal, as it was the last day of school, and the usual sad farewells were too much to be borne.

CLARK spent Sunday at Harvey NEWCOMB's. Master Roy GWIN was visiting his uncle, Mr. DULL, near Dewey Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. OSTERHOUT had a family re-union Sunday, all the children and grandchildren being at home.

    1. Death: Jas. WORLEY
    2. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday June 14, 1901 Jas. T. WORLEY, was born Sept. 2nd, 1841, in Harrison county, Ohio, and died June 5th, 1901, in Washington, Kansas. He was of a family of 14 children, 12 girls and 2 boys, he being the last to leave the scenes of time. He was married Jan. 27th, 1867, to Miss Mary GOODWIN at Decatur, Ill. To this union were born 9 children, two having died and 7 remain with their mother to mourn his departure. He has lived in this city 8 years. He located at Haddam 19 years ago, formerly he lived in Indiana, Iowa, and Illinois. He spent nearly three years in the Union army doing brave and loyal service. He was wounded by a sharp shooter after the battle of Kenesaw mountains. This wound caused much suffering all during his life, and like many who defended the unity and freedom of the country he was always pleased by giving such good service to his country. He lived a member of the church since the close of the war, and his last moments were filled with rich peace and satisfactory contentment o! btained through faith in the blessed Savior of men. His funeral was held in the M.E. church conducted by his pastor. J.G. HENDERSON.

WARE, of Clifton, and Miss Lenora SPURRIER of Clay Center, were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents in Clay Center last Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock, Rev. F.P. BLAKEMORE of the M.E. church officiating. Mr. and Mrs. WARE have many friends in this county who wish them joy and prosperity in the years yet to come. Mr. WARE, it will be remembered by many here, is editor of the Clifton News. May they never experience a shadow of trouble and may their future years of life and duty be one continued day of happiness.
