The Washington Republican Washington County Friday December 11, 1896 Max SAVOIE, who lives three miles south east of Greenleaf was in town Tuesday and reported that his son, Ed., who was shot a few weeks ago out in Colorado on a ranch was getting along all right. Savoie left his county to make his home with Mr. Gilliam in Colorado. They rented a farm of Mr. Hart, who was in the habit of driving every renter off the farm just before harvest time, and then take all the crop. He tried the bluff on his two renters and it resulted in a quarrel which led up to the shooting. Mr. Hart was wounded by Mr. Gilliam, but not seriously. It is claimed that Mr. Hart was entirely to blame and commenced shooting first. He is now under arrest.
