GUNDLEFINGER. Mr. Thomas was a German, unmarried and about thirty years of age. He had no relatives here and had been working out wherever he could get employment. The last time seen alive was five weeks ago, when he went to Mr. Gundlefinger's farm near Hanover and applied for work. Mr. Gundlefinger had nothing for him to do, he sttod for some time as though in deep meditation and walked on. From the looks of his body when found he had been hanging for some time. No letter or evidence of any description was found throwing and light on why he suicided, but sickness and despondency drove him to it. An inquest was held Sunday and the jury returned a verdict that he suicided. This is the fourth suicide near Hanover in the past year, and all Germans.

    3. The Washington Republican Washington County Friday April 9, 1897 City Election. Election in Washington was not a very exciting affair, but one ticket in the field made people lose interest. In all 252 people voted, and about 30 of them were women. One contest was made, the friends of Dad SMITH were determined on electing him street commissioner over Levi WARNER. Also a few people did not care to vote for W. CALVET, and voted for W.E. NIMS. Aside form these two there was but little scratching on the regular ticket, though the highest vote, 224, lacked 28 votes of getting the full strength, many tickets just had Dad Smith on them. The following is the result: E.B. BOX, for mayor, 220 Councilmen, E.H. BORDNER, 224, R.H. BRADEN, 221, W. CALVET, 165, W.E. NIMS, 43, E.A. AYRES, 221, G.W. OSBORN, 212; Police Judge, C.F. We saw Mr. Sheckler yesterday and he had no opinion as to how the fire started, but remarked that threats had been made that if he started another joint over in that part of town he would be burned out.
