Good Morning Mid-Western Rooters, In my great-uncle, WESLEY GORDON BRUCE's professional obit, it stated, "Cremation and burial will be at the Cedar Hill Crematory, Washington." Wesley died March 23, 1966 in Raleigh, NC, but he had spent a lot of time near the Manhattan, KS area. First of all, he arrived on an Orphan Train there in approx. 1910 and then received his high school education, BS and MS from the college in Manhattan. From there, he became a world renowned entomologist. I say all this to ask if there is a Cedar Hill Crematory in that area at all? Thanks. Janis Mundy Reno, NV
Please help if you can; My DAR membership is pending and I have been asked to submit PROOF that my ancestor Mahala BANKS was born in KS on 25 Nov 1854. Her parents are thought to be John Banks and Mariah (maiden name unknown). Would anyone be willing to do a Census lookup? Please contact me at; srose@jeffnet.org Thank you very sincerely, Sarah Rose
Hello, I am new to this list. I have been researching my wife's family for the past two years and now I feel like I have a good grip on her direct line, I am trying to go back and fill in details. My wife's grandfather Paul Asbury GROUT was born in Concordia,Cloud Co. KS in 1906 but his family moved to California very soon after (they were there by 1910). His grandparents were Elmer GROUT b. Sept. 26, 1839 Illion, Herkimer, NY d. Mar 5, 1915 (location unk.) and Barbara SMITH b. unk d. unk. m. Feb 10, 1869, Lawrenceville, Lawrence, IL. Their son (Paul's father) was David Theodore GROUT b. Oct 20, 1869, Lawrenceville, Lawrence, IL. They has left Illinois by 1870 - I have a family note that Elmer "moved west". Elmer had a daughter by a previous marriage. Mary Rena Harriett GROUT b. Jun 29, 1866, Wabash Co, IL d. Aug 26, 1926 Atchison Co, MO. Mary married James Porter TOWNSEND and they had the following children: 1 Mary Rena Harriett GROUT b: June 29, 1866 in Linn, Wabash, Ill d: August 26, 1926 in Atchison Co., MO .. +James Porter TOWNSEND b: February 15, 1855 in Tabor, Fremont, IA d: October 28, 1938 in Atchison Co., MO ..... 2 Vernon F. TOWNSEND b: September 21, 1885 in ,Washington, KS d: February 13, 1966 in ,Atchison, MO ......... +Ester ..... 2 Robert Elmer TOWNSEND b: October 01, 1887 in ,Washington, KS d: December 31, 1969 in ,Atchison, MO ..... 2 Henry W. TOWNSEND b: July 26, 1891 in Hollenberg,Washington,KS d: September 09, 1979 in ,Atchison, MO ..... 2 Herbert TOWNSEND b: August 17, 1895 in ,Washington Co., KS d: July 07, 1974 in ,Atchison, MO ......... +Fern Alma PHELPS b: February 26, 1900 d: June 1973 in ,Atchison, MO ..... 2 Dorothy TOWNSEND b: November 18, 1897 in <Washington,,KS> d: February 08, 1981 in ,Atchison, MO ......... +Hugh Leslie DAVIS b: July 16, 1898 d: August 17, 1951 ..... 2 Iva Pearl TOWNSEND b: June 05, 1893 in ,Washington Co., KS d: April 02, 1986 in ,Atchison, MO ......... +Hall William WARREN This according to "Gone But Not Forgotten" published by the Atchison Co MO Genealogical Society. As you can see all the children are noted as being born in Washington Co. including one specifically in Hollenberg. I am trying to locate places of residence for Elmer and Barbara after they left Illinois. Due to the births shown above I am supposing that they MIGHT have lived in Washington Co., for awhile. I tried to look at the Washington Co. Census for 1870 and 1880 but the microfilm at my local library is virtually illegible. I do not have access to a printed KS census index for either 1870 or 1880. Can anybody on this list help me? thanks Ian M. Layton mailto:layton@texas.net
My grt grnfthr, Robert Washington Fowler, was a shoemaker in Greenleaf,KS. His wife, Etta Mae was a practical nurse. Etta Mae helped with child birth in the early part of this century. I would like to know more about them. If anyone has any information please let me know. I am also interested in their relationship to Frank Chauncey. They bought some land from him in Greenleaf. I believe he may have been Etta Mae's brother-in-law. Laura Underwood a Underwood

I am interested in immigrants from the old Kingdom of Hanover to add to a research database. Those emigrants/immigrants with known Hanovarian birth villages are most wanted along with any of their known parents, siblings and there first generation in America. The purpose is to build a database that will eventually assist in linking (connecting) to ancestors in the old Kingdom of Hanover and then with other family members, e.g., aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings that emigrated to America. There are very interesting chain migration patterns of the residents of many villages to certain U.S. counties. Many neighbors and relatives followed the early immigrants the new wonderful farm land and former friends. Many of the Hanovarian surnames are very regional and found in the very nearby Hanovarian villages. I am now retired and need contributions to feed my genealogy addiction. Earl N.
