    1. Joseph and Hannah Balderston
    2. I was wondering if anyone could look up an obituary for me. It would be fore Hannah Fisher Balderston. She died July 29, 1910 and is buried at Clifton. I am searching for the names of her parents. Is possibly a lead on a family that I have lost. Any help would be appreciated. Family Search has him buried at Odd Fellows Cemetery and she at loof. Both Clifton. Perhaps the same cemetery. Thanks in advance. Jerilyn

    2. L Carpenter
    3. Hello list members, I am currently searching through the 1900 census for Washington County. Having a problem, without an index, I am having to search through each Township or City to find those I am looking for. Would anyone be able to help me locate which Township or City to find where those in Mahaska would be listed as there is not a Mahaska Twp listed for a choice. Also looking for Hollenburg and not among the list to choose from either. I have already gone through a few and would hope someone out there may be able to help me narrow down my choices. Thank you for your time, Laurie Carpenter Surname of interest in the Washington Co., Kansas area are: LAKEY, JUSTIS/JUSTICE, VINING/VINNING, AND WOOLSEY

    3. Obituary of Christoph Boettcher; October 6, 1893 in Hanover Democrat Newspaper: "An Old Citizen Gone." died, at his residence three miles east of Hanover on Sunday October, 1st, 1893 at 1 o'clock p.m. Christoph boettcher, aged 65 years and 6 months. Deceased was in his usual health up to Thursday the 28th of September when during the day, with his son F.J. Boettcher, they were taking care of some colts in the stable, he observed to his son that he felt dizzy headed and was about to fall, when his son caught him and saved him from going down. He was carried into the house and medical aid immediately summoned when it was found that he had sustained a paralytic stroke. He remained conscious and could talk until early Sunday morning, when he sank into a comatose state, with one side of the body paralized and passed away at 1 o'clock p.m. Sunday as above stated surrounded by a loving wife and nine sorrowing children, all grown to mand and woman hood. the deceased was born and married in Germany, but coming to America in 1865, settled first in Sac County Wisconsin, where he remained some five years. He then twenty-four years ago moved to Washington County Kansas and took up a homestead three miles east of Hanover where he resided until his death. At the time he located on his homestead there was not t twig of timber growing on it and this part of Kansas was almost wilderness, by his utiring energy and perseverance he made an inviting farm with most beartiful groves and surrounded himself and family with the comforts of life. Christoph Boettcher was a consistent member of the German Lutheran church, an upright honest man, who was highly respected by his neighbors. He leaves a wife and nine children, five boys and four girls, six of whom are married and three, one son and two daughters, single all of whom were present at his death and burial, besides two brothers and one sister, living in Germany to mourn their loss. The funeral took place Tuesday, October 3d, at 10 o'clock a.m. from the Lutheran church, the Rev. D Schabinger, pastor conducting the services, after which the remains were followed to the cemetery south of Hanover by a long procession of his old neighbors and friends to pay the last sad rites to his memory. 3. Emmons is in Charleston Township, just about 3 miles north and then 2 and a half miles east of Washington, Kansas. However the road is shown as going only 2 of those miles east. My grandparents lived there in 1895. It is still shown on the DeLorme map of Kansas. Welcome aboard. dhallgren

    3. Hi Karen, I'm at work now, but at home I have some old maps and information, etc about Washington Kansas. There are also a couple of web sites, but those addresses are at home as well. When I get home and have a chance to look them up, I'll let you know. I was from a small town called Haddam in Washington County, and I know that there are some Bobbits in the Haddam cemetery. And my younger brother was classmates to a Bobbitt. Roger Cox rcox@lamar.colostate.edu potwhole wrote: > Hi, > > I just joined this list.
