D. one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three personally appeared before me, Clerk of the County District Court a Court of the County and State aforesaid being a court of Record, Allen Sigler aged twenty-one years a resident of Spring Hill in the County of Johnson in the State of Kansas who, being duly sworn according to law, declared that he is the identical Allen Sigler who enlisted in the service of the United States at Harrisonville in the County of Cass in the State of Missouri On the First day of March A. D., 1862 as a Private in Company C commanded by Capt. Albert ? Briggs in the 2nd Battalion of Missouri State Militia Cav. Volunteers, in the war of 1861, and was honorably discharged on the thirty-first day of March A. D., 1863; that while in the service of the United States, and in the line of his duty, and on or about the Sixteenth day of August A. D., 1862 at the Battle of Loan Jack in the County of Jackson in the State of Missouri he received the following wound or disability to wit Gun shot wound of the right Shoulder also a Gun shot ? of the right Knee causing stiffness of the motion of the shoulder also stiffness of the Knee and that he has at all times borne, and will continue to bear, true faith, allegiance and loyalty to the Constitution and Government of the United States against all enemies and opposers, whether domestic or foreign. And I, Allen Sigler the applicant, making the foregoing declaration, do hereby, constitute and appoint Robert W. Dunstan, of the city of St. Louis, Missouri, my true and lawful attorney in fact, for me and in my name, to prosecute my said claim, and to receive for the certification of Pension which may be issued therefor, and generally to do and perform all such acts and doings in the premises which may be necessary, and which I might do if personally present and acting. February 5 1864 Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office of application for Pension No. ___, and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files of this Office. It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office, that Allen Sigler was enrolled on the 1st day of March, 1862, at Harrisonville, Mo in Co. C, 2nd Battalion of Cav. MSM, Volunteers, to serve during the war in Mo and mustered into service as a Private on the 4 day of April, 1862, at Harrisonville, Mo, in Co C, 2nd Battalion of Cav. MSM Volunteers, so serve during the war in Mo. On the Muster Roll of Co. C of that Regiment, for the months of September & October, 1862, he is reported Sick in Hospital Kansas City, Mo On the Muster Out Roll Dated March 31, 1863 he is reported Present with Company and Mustered out of service. No further evidence of Disability on file....Assistant Adjutant General Claim No 31998 of Allen Sigler Co C, 2nd Batt M. S. M. Cav Vol Hon. John C. Black Commissioner of Pensions. Washington D. C. In conformity to the letter of requirements from your office of November 24 1888 herewith returned I have the honor to State that my Post office address is McKeeney, Trego Co Kansas. That I was a private in Company C 2nd Batt M. S. M. Cavl. Vol. on the 16th day of Aug 1862 at Lone Jack Mo I received (2) Two gunshot wounds. One of said wounds I received in the right arm close to Shoulder. the other gun shot wound I received one hour later in the right knee I was then taken to the field hospital where my wounds was dressed by Surgeons W. H. H. Cundiff of my Reg. and Bl__td of the Confederate Army as the Dead and wounded were all left on the field and our surgeons remained with us, until the teams came and took us to Lexington, Mo. Where we were put Board of a Steam boat and taken to Jefferson City Mo, and when we arrived there at Jefferson City the hospitals was so crowded that I was taken to the house of one of the Warden of the Penitentiary about the 20th of August 1862. While I was their I was treated by the Surgeon of the ___ hospital. I was their until I was able to travel then I got a furlow for 60 days and transportation to Levenworth, Kan and I went from their to my Brothers at Spring hill Johnson Co Kansas Where I remained until a few days before the Expiration of my furlow. When I rejoined my regiment at Harrisonville, Cass Co. Mo and went under the treatment of Surgeon W. H. H. Cundiff of my regiment. I remained with my regiment from that time until my discharge. I have suffered from the Effects of these wounds ever since and as I grow older they continue to grow worse. Very Respectfully, yours Allen Sigler (stamped date Dec. 24, 1888) GENERAL AFFIVAVIT State of Kansas County of Kingman, ss In the matter of Allen E. Sigler Co. C 2nd Battalion Mo. State Militia Cav. Vol. No 452.864 certificate. On this 1st day of August, A. D. 1904, personally appeared before me Notary Public in and for the aforesaid county, duly authorized to administer oaths Allen Sigler aged 63 years, a resident of Kingman, in the county of Kingman, State of Kansas whose post-office address is Kingman, Kansas, well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That he is claimant in above cause and that he filed an application for pension, about 1896 or 97 through Robert A. Davison solicitor of Metropolis, Ill, alleging disabilities of Gun shot wounds to right shoulder & knee and chronic Diarrhea and piles. That at that time he was unable to furnish the evidence required as shown by letters hereto attached and marked Exhibits A & B by reason of such failure his said application was rejected as to chronic diarrhea & Piles. He further states that at that time he was unable to secure said evidence for the reason that he was sick and financially unable to spend the time necessary to find the comrades who could make said affidavits. That in May of this year he attended a reunion of his old comrades and found comrades who could make the affidavits required and that he has secured them and also the names of others who can furnish further evidence if necessary. He herewith files said affidavits and asks that his said case be reopened and that he be permitted to prove up his disability as to chronic diarrhea and piles. Which he is now in the position to do. GENERAL AFFIVAVIT State of Kansas, County of Ford, ss In the matter of the application for pension of Allen Sigler Co. C 2 Battalion Missouri State Militia Volunteer Cav. On the 24th day of September, A. D. 1908, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths Dr. ? Raub aged 69 years, a resident of Fort Dodge in the County of Ford, State of Kansas whose Post-Office address is Fort Dodge, Kansas, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declare in relation to aforesaid case as follows: I am intimately acquainted with Allen Sigler, sit beside him at the table where we both take our meals, and have particularly noticed his condition for the past four weeks. I have this day examined the said Allen Sigler and find a Gun shot wound of right arm about 4 inches below the right shoulder joint, ball entered on anterior side of arm passed through the biceps muscles and humeral and came out on posterior side of arm parallel the point of ______ the ____ at point of entrance is 1 inches in diameter contracted and adhesions the cicatrix of exit is 1 inch in diameter and contracted impairment of motion in right arm above the elbow about total due to adhesions of the biceps ____. I find a cicatrix on right knee joint one inch to the left of the Patella, contracted, patella is immovable impairment of motion in right knee joint about 3/4 ___ injury to knee weakness the right leg and renders ___ the movements of said limb making walking around difficult and dangerous he has fallen and injured himself on account of his right leg. I consider the said Allen Sigler totally disabled on account of the above described disabilities from the performance of any manual labor. (stamped 1 Dec. 1908) GENERAL AFFIVAVIT State of Kansas, County of Sedwick, ss In the matter of the application for pension of Allen Sigler Co. C 2 Battalion Missouri State Militia Volunteer Cav. Cef #452,864 On the 11th day of May, A. D. 1909, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths J. W. Hutton aged 53 years, a resident of Wichita in the County of Sedgwick, State of Kansas whose Post-Office address is Wichita, Kansas, #520 W. 3" St. well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declare in relation to aforesaid case as follows: The above named Allen E. Sigler came to my office this day and on examination I find an old gun shot wound of the right shoulder, resulting in impaired use of the right arm--also find a gun shot wound in the right knee resulting in uncertain use of the leg in walking, once causing him to fall on left shoulder, dislocating same and resulting in permanent and almost total disability in left arm, this making very little use of either arm permissible. The disabled right knee frequently causes falls or miss steps. I consider this man totally disabled for performing any physical or manual labor. I further disclose that I am a practising physician and have known said Allen E. Sigler almost one year and further declares that he has no interest in said case and is not concerned in its prosecution. [signed] J. W. Hutton, M. D. Cef #452,864 On the 15th day of May, A. D. 1909, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths Frank L. Britain aged 48 years, a resident of Wichita in the County of Sedgwick, State of Kansas whose Post-Office address is c/o Baltimore Hotel, Wichita, Kansas, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declare in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That he has roomed at the Baltimore Hotel in Wichita, Ks for two years last ___ and has been well acquainted with the ___ named pensioner during said period the pensioner having also lived at said hotel the greater portion of the last two years, part of the time having ___ with this affiant who for the last four or five months has acted as night clerk at said hotel. To affiant personal knowledge the pensioner has been disabled during the last ten years by reason of gunshot wounds of right shoulder and knee. He has on many occasions assisted pensioner in dressing and undressing in bathing his ___ and in ascending and descending stairs. He has massaged pensioners right shoulder and knee when same became----- and on several occasions has assisted pensioner to his feet when he has fallen by reason of his right knee giving way. The pensioner is also disabled in left arm but from this first mentioned disabilities ___ affiant believes him to be wholly incapacitated for earning a support by manual labor. further declares that he has no interest in said case and is not concerned in its prosecution. Cavy On the 10th day of August, A. D. 1910, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths J. W. Hutton aged 54 years, a resident of Wichita in the County of Sedgwick, State of Kansas whose Post-Office address is 26 N. Main St. Wichita, K, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declare in relation to aforesaid case as follows: I have this day examined Allen Sigler and find first a gunshot wound of right shoulder rendering arm useless for manual labor-he can manage to put on and take off clothing--I find also a gunshot wound of right knee causing disability for safe walking also for long continued walking--Has fallen many times from lower leg causing permanent injury to left arm--I consider this man totally disabled for performing manual or physical labor. Sigler Co. C 2nd Battalion Mo. State Militia Cavy On this 26 day of Feby, A. D. 1913, personally appeared before me Notary Public in and for the aforesaid county, duly authorized to administer oaths Allen E. Sigler aged 72 years, a resident of Wichita, in the county of Sedgwick, State of Kansas whose post-office address is Baltimore Hotel, well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: In addition to Wound of right shoulder and Right knee this claimant is afflicted with almost total disuse of left arm side and shoulder, caused by a fall seven or eight years ago, it was the result of the weakness of the right knee, and he states that he now totally disabled for any kind of manual, professional or skilled labor whatever, and has been totally disabled for four or five years. The disability increases with age, and he has not earned any money by manual labor for at least five years, that he was badly disabled before the fall and the last injury completed his wrecked condition. That he is unable to dress himself about half the time, that his arms are in such condition from the fall that he is unable to put his shirt, vest or coat or overcoat on without assistance of another person at least half the time, that his left hand is crippled, and the left side and arm is atrophied, the left arm is not near as large as the right arm, the condition of the soldier is better shown by the affidavit of the physician herewith filed....[signed] Allen E.
