The Erberts lived just north of Ellis. Possibly all the Cottons disappeared from this area with the coming of the Depression and the Dust Bowl. I am in search of his father and mother names, so I can continue research on my ancestry. The Federal Census for year 1890 were burned up (partial records saved)and the only time I found my grandfather is in the 1910 census in Oregon. After that, there are no further records other than the marriage license and it doesn't list his mother or father, just him and his wife. I would appreciate any help available, thank you. John and his wife, Lida Vansickle Cotton were married in Edgar County, Illinois and moved to Trego County, Kansas. I have found the family in the 1900, 1910, 1920, and 1930 census. I would like to try and locate their obituaries or tombstone records. John and Lida had two children. Jessie married Walter Musgrave but did not appear to have any children. Russell also married but also did not seem to have any children according to the census records. Any help would be greatly appreciated. He moved there about 1884-5 from Iowa. (Haven't looked there, yet, either.) He was naturalized by 1900, and died about 1907. He fought in the Civil War - would they have processed his naturalization before he fought? I don't think it was required. Thanks for any help. I grew up on the Voda Road and find the history of this community facinating. The 1900 Federal Census Records for Trego County, KS, show a Frank and Petrolina Krhut with Frank immigrating from Bohemia/Moravia in 1880. They were not in Trego in the 1880 census. Do you have information about where they lived before this and where they came from in Europe?
