    1. [KSTREGO] Trego County District Court Records
    2. I am trying to obtain copies the Declaration of Intent which was filed .with the District Court of Trego County, Kansas, 14th Judicial District, on 11 May 1880, by John S BAIKIE who was born 1849 in Scotland. I don't if this is a county court or an old Federal district. I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction to find this record. Thanks! Will Strickler

Author: r_a_green Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.trego/169/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Historic Atlas of Kansas Counties, an abridged atlas of county and city maps from 'The Official State Atlas of Kansas, Everts & Kirk, 1887'. The Historic Atlas of Kansas Counties (Zone 1-12) Atlas is a complete set of 1887 Kansas county maps. Each of the 12 Zones consists of a series of 8-10 bordering county maps making up all 106 Kansas counties. Each Zone Atlas contains high resolution scanned images of vintage 19th century county and city maps that are presented in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). Individual Zone CD's are available as well. In addition to all 106 Kansas county maps, there are nearly 800 city and village maps on this CD. City maps and plans are often more detailed and include the names of many original property owners, businesses, municipal buildings, etc. Please note: some small city and village map plans include street and lot detail only. Maps include the following 19th century features: * roads, railroads and canals * cities, towns and villages * post offices and government sites * one-room schoolhouses, churches and cemeteries * rivers, streams and ferries * racetracks, fairgrounds and picnic groves * industrial sites, furnaces and mills * early homesteads and farms - and much more The Historic Atlas of Kansas Counties may be an invaluable aid to Genealogists, Historians and researchers in search of 19th century Kansas places and place names. These early maps often contain many places that no longer exist or that have been obscured over time; the location of property owners, businesses, churches and cemeteries may assist genealogical researchers interested in Kansas history. The Adobe Acrobat Reader for MS Windows is needed to view, zoom, pan and print from the PDF map images contained in this atlas, and is included free on each CD. No other software is necessary. The Kansas Historical Society has copied all the county papers from early days to I believe 1988. Of course you need the death dates to get the right reels. They can keep them for 2 weeks but you can't take them out of the library. In the state no charge, but not sure there might be a small out of state charge for use. You should be able to get the original obituary in this way. Good luck Gayle M. Garrett Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: sparke127 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.trego/165.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, Linda, Most likely the family left Trego County in the late 1880's or early 1890's. These were tough economic times in Trego, Western Kansas, and Kansas in general. The population may have dropped by up to 50% in the county in this era. I did a quick check of the Trego and Kansas 1895 census and did not find the Madison's that you named. You can also check this by going online to www.kshs.org. Go to the Genealogist link and then click on census. There you will find an index of the 1895 KS census. Look for your Madisons. As may already know, the bulk of the 1890 Federal census burned in Washington. As for the Trego 1885 Kansas census, I've looked at that for my own research purposes and only the Collyer Township records remain. The Collyer Township was in the western 3rd of the county. Apparently the Glencoe records are lost. Check out that 1895 online record to see if you can find them through the Kansas State Historical Society database.
