The Topeka Capital Friday January 21, 1966 Margery J. Barrett. Services for Mrs. Margery Jenkins BARRETT, 83, 812 Lindenwood, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Chapel with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery. She died Thursday morning at a Topeka hospital. She suffered a stroke last Friday. Mrs. Barrett was the widow of former Topeka mayor Herbert G. Barrett. A resident of Topeka most of her life, she was born Aug. 22, 1882 in the Peterton community of Osage County. She attended nurses' training classes, and later was active in the Gray Ladies of the Red Cross. She She and Herbert G. (Tiney) Barrett were married Dec. 11, 1907 and together operated a grocery store at 2nd and Harrison for a number of years. He was mayor from 1935 to 1939. He died in 1949. Mrs. Barrett was a member of Central Congregational Church, Ancient Toltec Rite, Helena Chapter No. 210 of the Order of Eastern Star, and Social Order of the Beauceant. She was an honorary member of the Elks Auxiliary and the Shrine. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. E.I. COPPING, 713 Randolph, and Ms. Karl ROOT, Greenbrae, Calif.; two grandsons, and a sister, Mrs. Sally ROBERTS, Lyndon.
