The Topeka Daily Capital Wednesday May 26, 1920 J.F. Scott Is Dead. He and Three Sons Bought Paxton Store Two Months Ago. J.F. Scott, 68 years old, one of the proprietors of the new Scott Dry Goods Co., successors to Paxton & Paxton, died last night in a local hospital after an operation. Mr. Scott and his three sons, A.E. Scott, R.S. Scott and C.A. Scott, took over Paxton's store two months ago. Mr. Scott was in the dry goods business about fifty years. His first store, operated by himself and his brother, Carter Scott at Davis City, Ia., is still being operated by Carter Scott. He and his three sons now operate stores in Blytheville, Mo., Topeka and Herington, Kan. Another brother, W.H. Scott, operates a dry goods store in St. Joseph, Mo. Mr. Scott's death marks the second in a family of fifteen children. The death of a younger brother Dr. Daniel Voorhees Scott, a pominent physician in Louisville, Ky., fourteen years ago, was the first. Seven brothers survive; also six sisters, three sons, three daughters, and his widow. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed.
